Presented by Morgan Stanley       By Vanessa Williams  Email I was struck by this quote in a story about the spike in gun violence this year: "I'm scared to death of the summer, I'll be real honest … I expect this to be a record year," said Mark Bryant, founder of the nonprofit Gun Violence Archive. While out reporting a story last week, my colleague, a photo journalist who covered last summer's protests, and I wondered if this summer would be as intense. And our concern wasn't just professional, but as Americans who — like many others — have lived through a year unlike any other in our lifetimes. Although political and business leaders, as well as regular Americans have focused on getting "back to normal," the traumas of 2020 might be contributing to the rise in gun violence this year. Our colleagues Reis Thebault, Joe Fox and Andrew Ba Tran have put together a compelling story about the toll of gun violence in a county trying to recover from a record year of firearms deaths.
