BACOLOD City Councilor Elmer Sy died in a private hospital in the city Friday, June 25, 2021, due to his illness.

Councilor Renecito Novero, majority floor leader, said he was informed that Sy, 65, died in a private hospital Friday and it is sad news for Bacolod City.

He said Sy, a dialysis patient survivor, started his political career in 1990s during the term of Mayor Evelio Leoardia.

Sy's family has yet to issue a statement in relation to the cause of his death.

Novero said Sy, who was serving his second term, was a silent worker. He was the chairperson of the City Council committee on public works and committee on fire, natural disasters, and calamities.

"He was a generous worker. We received several blood donors through his effort to help the people of Bacolod," he said.

He added in previous months, Sy was also present in their virtual session.

Novero will also wait for the decision of the City Council to honor their colleague.

Sy is loved by Bacolodnons for being popularly known as a public servant of "less talk, more actions."

Former councilor Caesar Distrito also expressed his condolences to the family of his former party mate.

"It was a privilege working with him for two terms in the city. A humble, silent worker and pro-people kind of a leader," Distrito said. (MAP)

Negros Occidental governor pushes for A4 Covid-19 vaccination

Posted: 25 Jun 2021 08:57 AM PDT

NEGROS Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson is pushing that A4 or frontline personnel in essential sectors, including uniformed personnel, be allowed already nationwide in the Covid-19 vaccination program of the government.

"I'm calling to allow the vaccination for A4 not only in NCR (National Capital Region) but all over the country already because a lot of these individuals belonging to A4 are more than willing to have a vaccine," Lacson said.

Lacson made the emphasis as he revealed that there are still some areas that need a lot of pushing in the Covid-19 vaccination program.

Lacson said on June 22, during the rollout in the province, they had a 96.5-percent success rate with the participation of only 19 local government units.

"I always say we have to be ready because it's the national government saying that maybe by August we will have a lot of vaccines so we can expect more vaccines," Lacson said.

Provincial Administrator lawyer Rayfrando Diaz bared earlier that they are still finding it difficult to convince other residents of the province to get vaccinated against Covid-19.

Diaz said some local government units in the province are reporting that some of their constituents are still hesitant in getting the vaccine, especially those who have not yet experienced getting inoculated for other diseases.
