| 53 Infantry Battalion undergoes gun training, reveille exercise Posted: 26 Jun 2021 03:30 AM PDT THE Philippine Army's 53rd Infantry "Matapat" Battalion (IB) conducted Two-Gun Training to enhance the troopers' gun handling proficiency. The 53IB said in a statement that the training is part of its Small Unit Leadership Development Training (SULDT) for Scout Platoon. The SULDT aims to empower the 53IB small-unit leaders to provide effective command and control while training to be physically fit and mentally tough. The 53IB said that the training will enhance the troopers' gun-switching capabilities, providing them the skills to react to various combat scenarios using their pistols and rifles. The training was held last Sunday at the 53IB headquarters' firing range in Camp Sabido, Guipos, Zamboanga del Sur. Meanwhile, it has also conducted reveille exercise to maintain physical strength for the welfare of the troops. "Maintaining the troops' body physically fit translates to a body that is kept in shape—something the troops need to be more productive and better serve the people," the troops said. The activity was held Tuesday, June 22, in Gasa village, Lakewood, Zamboanga del Sur. (SunStar Zamboanga) This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
| Soil conservation month celebrated through tree planting Posted: 26 Jun 2021 03:28 AM PDT THE Department of Agriculture-Regional Soils Laboratory (DA-RSL) marked the observance of the Soils Conservation Month with a tree planting activity. The tree planting activity was held on June 25, 2021 at the agency's research station in La Paz village, Zamboanga City. During the activity, canella cinnamon trees were planted with the support of the DA-Integrated Laboratories Division (ILD) and La Paz Research Station. DA-RSL chief Maria Gemma Genaldo said that the celebration of the Soil Conservation Month is observed every June and spearheaded by the Bureau of Soils and Water Management (BSWM). Genaldo said that through tree planting, the soil increases its capability to absorb and retain water, which in return supplies the nutrients needed for the plants and food crops to grow. "We appeal to all to learn the importance of soil conservation management as it is the very essence in sustaining our food production. Trees also help improve soil quality, as they do save our environment," Genaldo said. She added that the tree planting activity was also timely since June 25 is Philippine Arbor Day. This year's Soil Conservation Month is anchored on the theme "Conserving soil together: A key to land restoration and recovery."
