CAGAYAN de Oro City Mayor Oscar Moreno said Wednesday, June 23, that he is eyeing to turn the two cinemas in SM City Cagayan de Oro into vaccinations sites.

Moreno, during a press briefing at City Hall, confirmed that the management of SM City Cagayan de Oro has expressed its willingness to have the mall as one of the venues for vaccination.

"I have talked to them some weeks back, ako silang giingnan nga mas mayo unta og naa sad tay vaccination site diha sa SM uptown," Moreno said.

"In fact, kagahapon nanawag sa ako ang SM Uptown kay willing pud sila," he added.

Moreno said the mall's Cinemas 1 and 2 are a good addition in the city's vaccination sites, serving the people in the uptown and hinterland areas, including those who are living in Barangays Iponan, Pagatpat, San Simon, Baikingon, Lumbia, Bayanga and Mambuaya, among others.

At present, Cagayan de Oro's vaccination sites include the city-run Limketkai Mall and SM Downtown Premier, and the DOH-run Centrio Ayala Mall.

"Kanang site is just one of the many things that we need to prepare with," Moreno said.

The mayor also mentioned that apart from increasing the number of vaccination sites in the city, there is a need to increase the manpower or work force, as well as improve the system for vaccination registration.

"Also, importante pud kaayo ang increase teamwork between the city government and the Department of Health regional office," Moreno said.

As of June 22, 2021, a total of 53,058 individuals have been vaccinated with Covid-19 vaccines, of which 16,299 are frontline healthcare workers (A1 group), 23,379 are senior citizens (A2 group), and 13,380 are people with comorbidities (A3 group).
