Despite GCQ, tourists continue to flock to Boracay Posted: 30 Jun 2021 11:37 PM PDT TOURISTS continue to arrive in Boracay Island, Malay, Aklan Thursday, July 1, 2021, despite the province being under general community quarantine (GCQ). President Rodrigo Duterte earlier declared the whole Aklan province under GCQ because of a surge in Covid-19 cases. The GCQ category is expected to last until July 30 unless otherwise lifted earlier. According to the Malay Tourism Office, Boracay welcomed 23,599 tourists between June 1 and June 30, 2021. Of the said number, tourists coming from NCR reached 15,075. This was followed by tourists coming from Calabarzon, which registered 6,150. Third in rank were those coming from Central Luzon with 1,736. The Malay Philippine National Police said it will strictly implement health protocols such as wearing face masks and face shields, including social distancing.
