Zamboanga City Government rolls out local SAP

Posted: 05 Sep 2021 03:54 AM PDT

SOME 558 families and members from different sectors affected by the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) in Zamboanga City have received financial assistance from the City Government.

The City Government has rolled out the Local Social Amelioration Program (LSAP) to provide financial assistance to families and workers affected by the pandemic.

Zamboanga City Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar said 170 of the 558 recipients of LSAP are families hardest hit, including survivors of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Salazar said the remaining 388 recipients of LSAP are child development workers, barangay nutrition scholars, barangay health workers, barangay population volunteers, village watchmen (tanods) and barangay intelligence network.

Each of the Covid-19 survivors who suffered mild to moderate symptoms received P3,000 while P5,000 each for those who experienced severe symptoms.

Meanwhile, those who belong to other sectors hardest hit by the Covid-19 pandemic also received P1,500 each of the LSAP.

They included workers in the event industry, barbershops, musical industry and other daily wage earners.

Salazar said funds for the LSAP come from the City Government's supplemental budget that was approved earlier this year.

She said the LSAP payout will continue until all those entitled to the financial assistance will receive the cash aid due them.

"El ayuda na tiempo de pandemia ay continua para na comida, curada y busca vida del maga residente," she said.

(The assistance for food, health and livelihood of the residents will continue amid the pandemic.)

BFAR launches fish stocking program in Zamboanga del Sur village

Posted: 05 Sep 2021 03:49 AM PDT

THE Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), in partnership with an association of fisherfolks, has launched the Balik Sigla sa Ilog at Lawa (Basil) program in New Oroquieta village, Sominot, Zamboanga del Sur.

The launching of the program was done through the conduct of two activities: fish stocking and habitat restoration on Wednesday, September 1, and the buffer one rehabilitation on Thursday, September 2.

On Wednesday, September 1, the New Oroquieta Small Water Irrigation System Association (Swisa) headed by Jethro Suacillo and Sominot Agricultural Technologist Joel Omboy released some 58,000 tilapia fingerlings and 2,000 snakeheads (mudfish) in the open water of the New Oroquieta Small Water Impounding Project (Swip).

BFAR Regional Director Isidro Velayo, Jr. said the move aims to provide food fish for local inhabitants, as well as fisherfolk of the community in the future.

Velayo said the habitat restoration was followed afterward through the clearing of weeds, removal of aquatic macrophytes and other debris along the embankment of the Swip.

Velayo said the Basil team mobilized the fisherfolk beneficiaries during activity on a cash-for-work basis.

The clearing activity is in preparation for the buffer zone rehabilitation through tree-planting activities along the embankment of New Oroquieta Swip undertaken on Thursday, September 2.

Swisa's 42 strong members planted a total of 86 tree seedlings with tree-guard, of which 40 pieces are bayog bamboo, 26 mahogany, and 20 bangkal trees.

The event was in coordination and participation of the Sominot municipal government and New Oroquieta village council headed by Daylinda Lagas, the village chairperson. (SunStar Zamboanga)
