San Carlos second most prompt, contributing LGU for tourism

Posted: 29 Sep 2021 03:56 AM PDT

THE San Carlos City in Negros Occidental was hailed as the Top 2 Most Prompt and Contributing Local Government Unit (LGU) in Negros Occidental in terms of overnight tourist statistics, a press statement from the city government said.

For the day tourist arrivals category, the city placed third.

These recognitions were announced during the virtual Negros Occidental Tourism Excellence Awards on Monday, September 27.

City Tourism Office's records showed that a total of 42, 885 individuals both local and tourist visited the city in 2020 which increased by 12, 731 or 22.56 percent only in January to August this year.

Tourism Operations Officer I Jennifer Paran, in a statement, said the increase is one of the bases of the city's requests for a project from the national agency.

Paran attributed the achievement to the owners and in charge of accommodation establishments in the city who submit monthly tourist arrival reports on time.

"The award served as an inspiration for us to continue to market San Carlos City to further increase the tourist arrival and hopefully next year, we will be able to get the top spot," she said.

The tourism officer thanked the tourists coming from various cities and municipalities in Negros Oriental and Occidental who continue to visit and explore the city amid the pandemic.

Paran said they are making sure that tourists follow the minimum health protocols set by the local and national governments.

The Negros Occidental Tourism Excellence Awards culminated the 21st Negros Occidental Tourism Month celebration themed "Tourism for Inclusive Growth."*

Bacolod’s Floating Restaurant project underway

Posted: 29 Sep 2021 03:50 AM PDT

The permit to operate the Sum-ag Floating Restaurant, a project of the Bacolod City Government, is presently being worked out by the contractor, Stoneworks Specialist International Corp., with the Maritime Industry Authority (Marina) in Manila.

Lawyer John N. Orola Jr., the city's consultant on trade, tourism and investment, in a press statement, said as soon as Certificate of Ownership and Certificate of Philippine Registry (CO-CPR) is completed including the bay and river clearance, it could be officially turned over to the local government.

Orola said Stoneworks' account officer informed him Tuesday, September 28, that the Marina is scheduled to release the necessary documents such as the CO-CPR this week for the Floating Restaurant project.

The consultant said he reported this development to Mayor Evelio Leonardia and Sum-ag Punong Barangay Rodney Carmona.

Orola is proposing the conversion of the floating restaurant into a livelihood floating center/boat in coordination with the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR).

"We want to train fisherfolk in the barangay and its surrounding areas for any project that can provide employment, livelihood and business especially those in the marginalized sector," he added.

It is required that all ships or boats of domestic ownership plying the Philippine waters, regardless of size and utilization must be properly registered and issued a CO-CPR.

"Ships such as PWC, WIG, amphibian, submarine, hydrofoil, hovercraft, floating restaurants, tandem push boat and mobile offshore drilling unit (MODU) shall be registered and issued CO-CPR," Orola said, adding that as "soon as the project is turned over to the city, all systems go for its operation."
