| [New post] Fauci’s NIH Once Tested AIDS Drugs On Foster Children, Including Infants Posted: 30 Oct 2021 12:16 PM PDT aletho posted: " By Tom Pappert | National File | October 27, 2021 Anthony Fauci's National Institutes of Health once experimented on foster children with AIDS, testing experimental drugs on the children while almost always failing to provide an independent advocate " Anthony Fauci's National Institutes of Health once experimented on foster children with AIDS, testing experimental drugs on the children while almost always failing to provide an independent advocate to make sure the children remain safe and healthy. This happened throughout the late 1980s and 1990s, and the practice was exposed in 2005. According to Anthony Fauci's biography page on the official NIH website, the longest-serving government employee began working for the NIH in 1968. In 1984, Fauci became the Director of NIAID, a position he still holds today. As Director of NIAID, Fauci oversees research to "prevent, diagnose, and treat infectious and immune-mediated diseases, including HIV/AIDS" according to the website. In 1988, Fauci became the first Director of the Office of AIDS research. While Fauci was in these roles, it was revealed in 2005, the NIH oversaw the enrollment of thousands of foster children with AIDS into controversial programs that allowed them to receive experimental drugs designed to combat the illness. Some of these children later died, and most were not given independent advocates that were promised. According to John Soloman, then reporting for the Associated Press, the NIH "promised in writing to provide an independent advocate to safeguard the kids' well-being as they tested potent AIDS drugs," however, these advocates failed to materialize for almost every child involved. The subjects – foster children without stable home lives – ranged from infants to late teens. Solomon wrote that, with a general lack of oversight, "Several studies that enlisted foster children reported that patients suffered side effects such as rashes, vomiting and sharp drops in infection-fighting blood cells, and one reported a 'disturbing' higher death rate among children who took higher doses of a drug, records show." (READ MORE: NIH Quietly Changes Definition Of 'Gain-Of-Function' Amid Fauci, Wuhan Lab Scandal Fallout) "Some foster children died during studies," reported Solomon after noting that the majority of children appear to not have received an advocate. "State or city agencies said they could find no records that any deaths were directly caused by the experimental treatments," he noted. A 2009 article from The New York Times claims that no New York City children "died as a result of the trials" and that children in the city were not selected for the trials based on their race. Still, the Times found "that the agency had not always followed its own protocols and kept poor records." The Times also discovered that some of the children died, but those involved with the research asserted the deaths were unrelated to the experimental drugs. Interestingly, Fauci's name is not mentioned in any of the articles about foster children being used for experiments, despite him having a leadership position at the time. Further complicating the omission, Fauci was loathed by the LGBT community at the time the experiments were being conducted and when the news about the foster child experiments broke. (READ MORE: NIH Funds 'Toxic Brain Injection' Monkey Experiments, Holes Drilled Into Skulls, Devices Implanted Into Brains) In 2018, only two years before the mainstream media would lionize Fauci via its nonstop coverage of COVID-19, then-82-year-old AIDS activist Larry Kramer described Fauci as "The consummate manipulative bureaucrat who speaks out of too many sides of his mouth.'' Kramer died in May of 2020. We also know that Fauci was actively, personally engaged in AIDS research around the time the foster children were being used for experiments. In fact, Fauci told NPR earlier this year that, in the 1980s, he would clandestinely visit gay bath houses, bars, and night clubs with the goal of physically witnessing the transmission of HIV live and in person. |

BJP Kerala's president K Surendran made the same claim on Twitter. He wrote, "What happened in Kakkanad is nothing less than Talibanism. I urge the people of Kerala to reject #HalalInvasion" Other BJP members who posted the claim include politician Sandeep Vachaspati, Anoop J (2K RTs) and CT Ravi. Rahul Easwar who identifies as a 'Hindu activist' also shared the claim (later deleted the tweet and apologised). This slideshow requires JavaScript. Several media outlets shared this claim including Malayalam-language news outlets Kurukshethra, Bharathlive, and Marunadan TV; mainstream media outlets such as The Times of India, India Times, NewsTrack Live and Zee News; and pro-BJP propaganda outlets such as OpIndia, RSS mouthpiece Organiser, Kreately and The Hindu Post. This slideshow requires JavaScript. Posts on the same topic by columnist Shefali Vaidya (3.8K RTs), BJP supporter Arun Pudur and FB user à´œിà´¤ിൻ à´œെ à´•ുà´±ുà´ª്à´ª് (1,2) gained high engagement. This slideshow requires JavaScript. FACT-CHECK What was the dispute? Halal food is that which adheres to Islamic law, as defined in the Quran. It is typically associated with how animals are slaughtered prior to processing meat. More details about it can be read at the website of Halal Food Authority, a non-profit organisation that monitors adherence to halal principles, and this 2014 BBC report. In January, Kerala Kaumudi (KK) reported, Thushara whose full name is Thushara Ajith Kallayil, started the first 'anti-halal' restaurant in Kerala called 'Nandu's Kitchen'. It is located at Vennala near Medical Center in Ernakulam. Thushara told KK, "The board was set up because some avoided food for the sole reason that it is not halal, which was annoying." The News Minute reported that the police informed that a scuffle took place between two shop owners on the eve of October 24. One party involved Thushara, her husband Ajith and some other men. The other group comprised Nakul, one of the other shop owners, and Binoj George. Both Thushara (FIR 1290/21) and George (FIR 1289/21) filed a police complaint on October 24. Kerala-based journalist Zayan Asif translated the FIRs to English for Alt News. According to George, Nakul operated a chaat stall outside his cafe (Dine Restro Cafe). He was informed that the stall was allegedly removed by Thushara and her husband. Upon questioning Thushara, a scuffle broke. He was allegedly slapped by her and another man who purportedly slashed Nakul's hand and attacked his leg using a knife. This FIR was registered at Sunrise Hospital where both were hospitalised. The IPC sections listed are 323 [Punishment for voluntarily causing hurt.], 324 [Voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means], 326 [Voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means] and 34 [Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention]. However, as per Thushara, Nakul and an unnamed person (George) allegedly came to their restaurant (Nandu's) and started a verbal altercation. She claimed they subsequently hit her on the head and when she threatened to report to the police, Nakul allegedly grabbed at her sari and blouse and partially disrobed her. Shortly after, the unnamed person allegedly hit her on the stomach and that's when her staff member came with a kitchen knife and attacked Nakul. As per her statement, she offered Nakul and George a ride to the hospital. The IPC sections listed are 354 [Assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty], 323 [Punishment for voluntarily causing hurt.]; 294 (b) [sings, recites or utters any obscene song, ballad or words], and 34 [Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention]. It is worth noting that Thushara has not mentioned that she was attacked by "Jihadists" in her statement but she did make this claim on social media (later discussed in the article). Kochi city police commissioner Nagaraju Chakilam told Alt News, "The incident of October 24 is not related to the 'No-Halal' board and the violence was not communal. It was purely a civil dispute. As of now, Thushara and Ajith are hiding from the police. Based on our progress in the investigation, they will be arrested soon." On October 28, Infopark police shared a Malayalam report based on their investigations (view PDF). Police wrote in their report that this was a calculated attack by Thushara, her husband and their accomplices. Thushara's husband Ajith is accused in several cases in the Cheranallur police station, including the Imtiaz murder case. Alt News found a 2017 TOI report that has named Ajith as one of seven accused in the murder of one Imtiaz Khan, a real estate businessman. Kochi city police commissioner Nagaraju Chakilam shared CCTV footage that shows Thushara and her associates. One of them damaged the CCTV at the 0:58 mark. How was the communal spin added? On October 25, Thushara shared nine Facebook Lives (at 8:41, 8:53, 9:13, 9:54, 9:58, 10:38, 10:46, 14:51, 14:52). In these videos, various claims have been made. Kochi city police commissioner Nagaraju Chakilam told TNM that there is no communal angle as portrayed by Thushara and others on social media. "Basically, there exists a multipartite civil dispute over leases, subleases, etc. The scuffles, the alleged theft of furniture items etc, are over claiming rights of the commercial space. Complaints given at the police station are all indicative of the above and any other versions getting circulated in social media are just to pressurise and channel police action for or against a particular party," he said. This slideshow requires JavaScript. Alt News spoke with another person fluent in Malayalam who said that around the 1-minute mark in the first Facebook Live, Thushara claimed that "jihadis" along with "communalised/ commi Hindus" tried to attack her. To sum it up, a scuffle between restaurant owner Thushara Ajith and others with Nakul and Binoj George in Kochin's InfoPark area was reported as a communal incident based on misleading claims by Thushara on social media. Several Kerala-based media outlets and BJP members including Kerala BJP president K Surendran amplified the claim. While viral claims attempted to build a narrative against Muslims, the reality was completely different. |

A coalition of Pennsylvania lawmakers introduced a bill this week that's meant to promote research into the therapeutic potential of psilocybin mushrooms for mental health conditions such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)—the latest example of how the psychedelics reform movement is gaining momentum. Led by Rep. Tracy Pennycuick (R), the legislation, titled the Public Heath Benefits of Psilocybin Act, would establish "a framework for research in this Commonwealth to discover innovative methods to optimize the public health benefits of psilocybin." It would prioritize studies that focus on veterans, retired first responders and their families. Under HB 1959, which was formally filed with 19 cosponsors on Wednesday, the state Department of Health would authorize at least two entities to "plant, grow and cultivate natural psilocybin mushroom product solely for use in the clinical studies of psilocybin." Pennycuick, an Army veteran herself who lives with PTSD, told Marijuana Moment in an email that she has "great compassion for all those searching for treatment options, and am impressed with the initial reports I have read on the potential effectiveness of psilocybin." "A couple other states are starting studies on this treatment, and with Pennsylvania being home to the fourth largest population of veterans in the United States, it only makes sense we are among the first to take action on clinical studies that could help our military men and women," she said. In a cosponsorship memo filed in July with Rep. Jennifer O'Mara (D), the lawmakers wrote that "as traditional treatment has proven inadequate at both the individual and public health level, the Commonwealth has a responsibility to research alternative options." "A growing body of research provides a reason for hope that psilocybin, administered in a controlled setting, will be the most effective tool at our disposal to combat the suicide, opioid and… Excerpt only ... | [New post] Facebook, the Metaverse, and John Carmack Posted: 30 Oct 2021 10:15 AM PDT Wilhelm Arcturus posted: "The metaverse is honey pot trap for architecture astronauts. -John Carmack, Consulting CTO for Oculus VR The metaverse has been much discussed in our little corner of the world here in 2021, largely due to Raph Koster and his Riffs by Raph columns ove" The metaverse is honey pot trap for architecture astronauts. -John Carmack, Consulting CTO for Oculus VR The metaverse has been much discussed in our little corner of the world here in 2021, largely due to Raph Koster and his Riffs by Raph columns over on the Playable World site where he has been writing about virtual worlds, multiverses, and the potential for a metaverse. While he is clearly selling a vision as much for investors as for us, his self-promotion contains plenty of valuable insight. There has also been something of a wave of NFT and blockchain proponents hyping their favored tech as the key ingredient for some future metaverse, though they can hardly drag themselves away from destroying the planet and scamming people with the virtual goods version of the property flip scam to be taken seriously. They are are just modern incarnations of those who would sell the Brooklyn Bridge or investment opportunities in perpetual motion machines. George C. Parker would be very much at home among them. Steam went so far as to ban all titles that have NFT or cryptocurrency ties. (Scott Hartsman has a Twitter thread about why Steam might not want the liability that comes with those titles.) Epic went the other direction immediately because Tim Sweeney's idea of an argument is the automatic gainsaying of whatever his opponent says. But Tim Sweeney says a lot of things, and he carefully caveated his statement to give the Epic Store an out. But the big bombshell this week was Mark Zukerberg announcing his intention to create the metaverse and being so invested in the idea that he has changed the name of his company to Meta. The memes based on this image are quickly becoming meta My gut reaction to a Facebook owned metaverse requiring me to strap their Oculus hardware to my face and let them watch and exploit everything I do in their Horizon virtual world sim is a pretty strong negative. The pitch has been put together in this 20 minute video which features Zuckerberg himself explaining how he wants to co-opt the metaverse idea and make it something he controls. He isn't so much promoting a metaverse so much as a "Zuckerverse" where he'll be king. Part of me sees evil based on what Facebook has become, but part of me also sees somebody who peaked in their 20s with an astounding success, becoming a billionaire over night, who now wants to top that. Oh, and I also see somebody who has no idea what real people want or need... and maybe a bit of distraction from the bad odor Facebook is in right now as well. Lots going on here. And I am one of those people who read Snow Crash in the late 90s and have been hearing about the idea of VR since the mid 80s, so I am still in the target zone for online world ideas. But Facebook driving it... well, a lot of people were annoyed/dismayed when Facebook bought Oculus back in 2014, and we were only angry because Facebook hosted crappy spammy social games and harvested our data. (Some fun links in that post. I think the Raph Koster one might be the most on the money, which doesn't surprise me.) More interesting and refreshing though has been the take by John Carmack, Consulting CTO for Oculus, which Facebook owns (and which is also losing its name), who gave the keynote speech for Zuckerberg's event. He seems much less convinced that the metaverse is an achievable objective in the way that is being presented. The video of his presentation is embedded below, dialed up to just where he begins to speak about the metaverse idea. He is a strong proponent of the idea, but not so much of the path it is on, and is keenly aware of the complications it faces. The "architecture astronauts" he mentions in the keynote, from the quote I have at the top of the post, are those who like the big picture ideas of the metaverse while skipping over the details of how to actually make those big picture ideas work. Carmack is very much about those details and points out quite a few issues with the idea of an Oculus VR based metaverse, not the least being the problem of the headset itself. He compares it to the ubiquity of our phones and the challenge of reaching that level with hardware that you have to strap to your face and which blots out the real world, not to mention the whole motion sickness thing. I mean, he still seems all in on a Facebook metaverse, he just just comes across as skeptical that they're going about it the right way. Anyway, there is a bunch there to digest and news stories abound about the Facebook announcement, so use your favorite search engine to find them, though if you want the best headline to come out of this, Vice has you covered. Ars Technica also has a summary of the Carmack keynote if you don't want to watch it, though I think watching it has much more impact. There is also a nice Twitter thread that brings up key Carmack statements which is a quick read. As for Facebook changing its name to Meta... does anybody actually call Google "Alphabet" now? And what happens to The Meta Show, the weekly EVE Online Twitch show? Does this help it or hurt it? We'll see what this looks like a year from now.
