DOH-Northern Mindanao launched national vax drive in Oro

Posted: 29 Nov 2021 05:11 AM PST

THE Department of Health (DOH)-Northern Mindanao launched the three-day National Vaccination Days from November 29 to December 1 at Patrick Cronin, St. Augustine Metropolitan Church in Cagayan de Oro City.

The National Vaccination Days, dubbed as "Bayanihan Bakunahan: Ligtas. Lakas. Buong Pinas," is a nationwide simultaneous event that aims to administer nine million doses of Covid-19 vaccines across the country and scale up the vaccination output of local government units from November 29 to December 1, 2021.

Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Secretary Martin Andanar, who was present during the launching on Monday, November 29, praised the efforts of the frontliners during his speech.

"Indeed, they have taken their duty and obligation seriously and fervently served during this pandemic, and all of us who have benefited from it have our own responsibility to ensure that we help protect each other in our own way," Andanar said.

"A way to make a sizable contribution to this collective effort is by participating in our national Covid-19 vaccination program," he added.

Archdiocese of Cagayan de Oro representative Rev. Coke Daryl Prieto, for his part, said that 98 percent of the priests are already vaccinated.

Cagayan de Oro-managed vaccination sites joined in the simultaneous inoculation of Covid-19 vaccines to signify support and participation in the three-day event.

But on Monday morning, some vaccination sites experienced technical problems.

"We apologize about the glitches that happened in the morning," City Health Office medical officer Dr. Ted Yu said during the regular press briefing at the city hall.

"Hopefully by tomorrow, wala na tayong problem sa ating mga glitches," he added.

Mayor Oscar Moreno also apologized to the public, saying that it is one of the several potential problems the city will encounter during the three-day event.

"I just hope nga suportahan gyud nato and make this vaccination drive successful dinhi sa dakbayan sa Cagayan de Oro," Moreno said.

He said even if the city already achieved herd immunity, it will still continue with its vaccination rollout.

"We will not stop, bisag kompleto na ta, nakuha na nato ang herd immunity, we will continue with our vaccinations as many as possible, dugangan pa nato," Moreno said.

"Hopefully, in the next few weeks, magsugod na ta pagdawat sa katong magpabakuna from other LGUs, especially since ang vaccination phase sa atong mga silingan nga LGUs is medyo behind pa gihapon," he added.

According to the data from DOH-Northern Mindanao, 36 percent of the region's 3.5 million vaccine eligible population is now fully immunized, while the rest have already received their first dose of the vaccine.

Present during the launching were DOH Regional Director Jose Llacuna Jr., National Economic and Development Authority Regional Director Mylah Faye Cariño, and Office of the Civil Defense Regional Director Antonio Sugarol.
