So stay tuned for that, but while you wait, check out our expansive holiday gift guide to help you shop.
Several of my colleagues have already shared their respective wishlists in previous newsletters, and now it's my turn. Unfortunately, some of my pipe dream gadgets simply aren't available due to supply chain issues and chip shortages. But a guy can dream, right?
I'm so curious about Teenage Engineering's Computer-1 mini-ITX case, even though I recently upgraded to an NZXT H510i. There's something alluring about having a minimalist computer case, even if it costs $195. The Computer-1 ships in a small box, containing flat panels of aluminum that you have to bend into shape, along with a few other components. This doesn't seem like my end-all, be-all computer case, but it sounds like it'd at least be a fun weekend project. Now, I just need an entire mini-ITX-based system to go along with it. $195 Prices taken at time of publishing.
Sigh. It didn't occur to me just how much I wanted Analogue's Pocket console until the preorders were sold out. The reason why I want it so much is that this $200 portable was made to play games from many of the classic handhelds faithfully without emulation, with the kind of FPGA accuracy you'd normally find in something like a MiSTer console. It's compatible with Game Boy and Game Boy Advance cartridges out of the box, and I just adore the design. One of these days, I hope to snag one because it'd make the perfect subway buddy. $200 Prices taken at time of publishing.
I reviewed these earphones on The Verge a couple of years ago, but the utility of the Aftershokz Aeropex is something I've recently come to appreciate more in my life. Given that I, sadly, spend little time outdoors during the week due to my job, I want to hear it all when roaming around outside, from the sounds of birds to people talking as they pass by. Yet, I I also want to listen to podcasts and music. The Aeropex let you do both at once thanks to their bone conduction sound transmission, which sends sound through your jaw bones instead of plugging up your ears. $130 $160 19% off Prices taken at time of publishing.
Sigh, but for a different reason than for the Analogue Pocket. I don't actually want the latest $79 Pixel Stand that claims to wirelessly charge the Pixel 6 way faster than the original Pixel Stand. But I do desire the simplicity of being able to have my Pixel 6 upright on the stand, charging quickly, so that it never misses a beat. This is the item on my wishlist that I wish to pay for with my own money the least, so getting it as a gift would be great. $79 (preorder) Prices taken at time of publishing.
If the world were a normal place, I probably would already have an RTX 3070 in my custom PC. Alas, the pandemic and all have made basically every graphics card capable of playing games from the last decade nearly impossible to find -- at MSRP, at least. This includes the RTX 3070 that I want from Best Buy that costs $500 (when it's in stock). I game with a QHD gaming monitor, and to keep my system current for years to come, I think the RTX 3070 would be a good fit. $500 Prices taken at time of publishing.
I fear that getting an OLED TV is a dream that may never come true. The combination of them costing so much and my inability to save money makes this a tough one to see happening, so that's why I'm leaving it up to someone (anyone) else to buy it for me. I crave seeing my favorite Switch and PlayStation 5 games looking more vivid than ever, and I can already see myself frequently pausing to call my wife over, saying "Look! Our regular LCD could have never made this scene look so good. See... see?" I want the 55-inch LG C1 that costs $1,300 right now. $1,300 $1,500 14% off Prices taken at time of publishing.
I'm ending on a more reasonable ask: a new set of compact but capable bookshelf speakers. Actually, I want them for my desk where I work all day because my current set is getting a little long in the tooth. The Kanto Yu2 have a sleek, minimalist design, and they're small. I like that I can use them via USB with my PC, or connect them to the record player in my living room. I'm not sure that I'd pay the typical asking price of $260 myself -- though, they are on sale for $240 at Adorama -- so go ahead and put this on my wishlist tab, too. $240 $260 8% off Prices taken at time of publishing.
