World Alert: WTA says it will suspend all tournaments in China amid response to tennis player Peng Shuai’s sexual assault allegations

In a statement released Wednesday afternoon announcing the decision, Women's Tennis Association chairman Steve Simon said, "I don't see how I can ask our athletes to compete there when Peng Shuai is not allowed to communicate freely and has seemingly been pressured to contradict her allegation of sexual assault."
