On Parenting: Yes, parents, this is a lot of togetherness

Oh, together time. It's been a joy and, let's face it, a drag during covid. I know I'm not alone in struggling with that groundhog day feeling right now. As one reader of teens wrote to Meghan Leahy this week: "The pandemic has allowed our family to have a whole lot of dinners and time together, and they are becoming, shall we say, not so special anymore." There has been squabbling and the parent who wrote in asked how to keep the peace and improve meal times. Meghan's wise take on it is a good reminder that it's not just about that one moment. "You, as the parent, are trying to bring your … children through a pandemic and have them emerge as people who continue to thrive and grow, despite and because of the challenges they faced. No small thing." I love being reminded of that, and celebrating the wins and the closeness we have created over the last couple of years. There are unspeakable challenges, yes. But I also am more than happy to think about what good we're creating in the midst of it.
