'Big-time' drug suspect killed, P27.2-M shabu seized

AN ALLEGED big-time drug suspect was killed, a policeman was wounded and some P27.2 million illegal drugs were seized in an anti-drug operation in Zamboanga City, a top police official announced Saturday, February 26, 2022.Police Colonel Alexander Lorenzo, Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO) director, said the suspect was killed as a shootout ensued during the anti-drug operation around 10 p.m. Friday, February 25, at Caragasan Beach in Maasin village, east of Zamboanga City.Lorenzo identified the slain suspect as Puruti Taraji alias Bossing listed as a high-value individual (HVI) and a resident of Laum Maimbung village, Maimbung, Sulu.The identity of the wounded policeman was withheld. He was an undercover operative who acted as poseur buyer during the anti-drug operation.Lorenzo said the shootout ensued after Taraji shot the undercover policeman prompting the other members of the operating team to return fire that resulted in the death of the suspect.He said the suspect's two cohorts aboard a motorboat also opened fire and fled after missing their targets.He said the operating team composed of policemen and marine forces recovered from the suspect some four kilograms of suspected shabu worth P27.2 million, a 9-millimeter pistol, a bundle of boodle money topped with one genuine P1,000 as supposed payment of P4 million, and several non-drug items.The anti-drug operation was launched after four months of surveillance on the illegal drug trade of the suspect, Lorenzo disclosed. Navy assigns new 3BAD commander

THE Philippine Navy (PN) has assigned a new commander to head its 3rd Boat Attack Division (BAD) based in Naval Station Juan Magluyan in Panglima Sugala, Tawi-Tawi.Lieutenant Senior Grade Chester Ross Cabaltera, Naval Forces Western Mindanao (NFWM) information officer, said installed as the new chief of the 3BAD is Commander Reynante Ma-ao, who replaced Commander Alvin Almanzor.Cabaltera said Commander Philip Edward Lamug, chief of staff of the Navy's Littoral Combat Force (LCF), presided over the turnover of command ceremony held Wednesday, February 23, at the Sailors Clubhouse of Naval Station Juan Magluyan.Cabaltera said Lamug presented a Military Merit Medal (MMM) from LCF and one Triple M with a Plaque De Merito from NFWM to Almanzor for his invaluable services and contribution in leading the 3BAD to accomplish all given tasks in support to the PN's mission accomplishment.Lamug congratulated Almanzor for graduating from his command at Sea Tour and welcomed Ma-ao, the 3BAD's new skipper.Almanzor is a member of the Naval Officer Qualification Course Class 148 while Commander Mao-ao is a member of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) "Mandarangan" Class of 2003.The change of command ceremony is a time-honored tradition that celebrates the changing of the guards.Cabaltera said deployed in NFWM area of operations, particularly in Tawi-Tawi, 3BAD is the first missile-capable Unit of the PN composed of high-speed Multi-Purpose Attack Craft. As the vanguard of the sea, the 3BAD accomplished several surface operations like Territorial Defense, Maritime Security and Search and Rescue. (SunStar Zamboanga)
