Business Alert: Mortgage rates top 5 percent, the highest level in 11 years, as housing market faces inflation pressure

The 30-year fixed-rate average, the most popular mortgage product, hit 5 percent this week, according to Freddie Mac. Low rates fueled the revival of the housing market after the Great Recession, and in the past two years have helped drive home prices to record levels.
