Posted: 16 Apr 2022 12:01 AM PDT

THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Saturday, April 16, 2022, assailed individuals who are making false claims about the May 9 polls and are issuing threats against the poll body.Comelec Spokesperson James Jimenez said in a social media post that such statements must be condemned, not only by the poll body but also by candidates in the coming elections."Apart from making false claims about the elections, this is a clear bomb threat, and it is just one of several we've found using the same words and possibly the same audio," said Jimenez."Candidates should condemn this madness," he added. In a Tiktok video by one @berta137 (Rhobie Bautista) attached by Jimenez, it showed an individual issuing stern warnings to the Comelec against rigging the election results.According to @berta127, the commission must not make the mistake of committing poll fraud that will result in the defeat of Marcos, whom they believe is already bound to win the next elections."Comelec, umayos kayo ha. Ngayong darating na election, dapat walang dayaan. Subukan nyong dayain si Bongbong Marcos, subukan nyo lang, papasabugin namin kayo, magkakagulo dito sa bansang Pilipinas, tandaan nyo yan," said @berta127.(Comelec, behave yourselves. This coming elections, there should be no cheating. Just try cheating Bongbong Marcos, just try, we will bomb you, there will be chaos in the Philippines, remember that.)"Wag na wag nyo dadayain si Bongbong Marcos. Alam na nating lahat kung sino na ang panalong Presidente ng Pilipinas, walang iba kundi si Bongbong Marcos. Wag lang kayo magkakamaling dayain sya. Tandaan nyo yan. Magkakagulo dito sa Pilipinas, tandaan nyo yan. Comelec, umayos kayo," furthered @berta127.(Don't even try cheating Bongbong Marcos. We all know who is the winner as President of the Philippines, nobody else but Bongbong Marcos. Do not make that mistake of cheating him. Remember that. There will be chaos in the Philippines, remember that. Comelec, behave yourselves.) (HDT/SunStar Philippines)

CBCP head: Choose a servant, not a boss come May polls

Posted: 15 Apr 2022 11:21 PM PDT

SAYING those who act like bosses may eventually act like gods, the head of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) on Thursday, April 14, 2022, urged Filipinos to choose leaders come the May 9 polls that are servants like Jesus Christ. In his homily during the Mass of the Lord's Last Supper, CBCP President Bishop Pablo David said the people must choose the next leader that will be willing to serve and not be served."It is important to ask this coming May... who among the choices will act like a boss, and who will act like a servant, who will not be ashamed to wash feet?" said David."It means being humble... For us disciples of Christ, leadership must be done in the spirit of servitude, servanthood," he added. On the other hand, the Kalookan prelate warned that choosing one who acts like a boss, may eventually lead to him/her acting as if he is a god.He said this is because such persons with power are the ones usually targeted by the devil to commit wrongdoings."It's dangerous to be in a position of power as man can get drunk with it and even go crazy," he said."They are the type that the devil can play with. They become a new kind of slave, enthralled by power," David added. The call was issued to the faithful with only 24 days left before the next presidential elections. (HDT/SunStar Philippines)

DOH warns of active Covid-19 cases surge to 300,000 by mid-May

Posted: 15 Apr 2022 11:14 PM PDT

ACTIVE coronavirus disease (Covid-19) cases may rise to as high as 300,000 by the middle of May if compliance with minimum public health standards (MPHS) continues to decline.Based on the projections of the Department of Health (DOH), active Covid-19 cases may see a new wave if health protocols continue to be disregarded by the public."A 30-percent decrease in MPHS compliance might bring the cases up further to as high as 300,000 over the same time period," said the DOH in a statement."This figure is higher than the largest recorded number of active cases of 291,618 during the peak of the Omicron wave in January 2022," it added.Active Covid-19 cases in the country were at 24,179, as of April 14.The DOH said the current active Covid-19 cases were brought about by Filipinos nationwide practicing MPHS less, or by seven percent.Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said such a scenario is not yet guaranteed as it will largely be dependent on the people's adherence to the safety protocols."At this point, these are all still projections. We can still avert these estimates in favor of better scenarios," said Vergeire. She said active cases may drop and plateau to 16,934 by mid-May if Filipinos are to strictly observe MPHS."The analysts observed that the number of active cases nationwide could decrease and then plateau to just around 1,293 to 16,934 in mid-May," said Vergeire. The independent Octa Research earlier said the country is already due for a surge based on the previous trend seen in Covid-19 cases, wherein a surge happens around every three months in the Philippines, with its last one taking place in January. The World Health Organization Philippines also noted how a surge in Covid-19 cases in the country is quite likely due to the observance of the Holy Week and the conduct of numerous election-related activities as potential causes of a surge.
