More areas in Eastern Visayas placed under Alert Level 1

AT LEAST 32 local government units (LGUs) in Eastern Visayas have been placed under Alert Level 1 from April 1 until April 15, 2022, according to the Department of Health (DOH) Eastern Visayas.Areas in Leyte under Alert level 1:1. Albuera2. Baybay City3. Dulag4. Matag-ob5. Palo6. TungaSouthern Leyte1. Anahawan2. Hinundayan3. Libagon4. Limasawa5. Maasin City6. Macrohon7. Padre Burgos8. PintuyanArteche, Balangkayan, Borongan City, Can-Avid, Jipapad, Maydolong, Salcedo, San Policarpio, Sulat, and Taft in Eastern Samar, and Capul, Lapinig, Lavezares, San Antonio, San Jose, and Victoria in Northern Samar, and Marabut, and Pagsanghan in Western Samar were also placed under alert level 1.Meanwhile, the province of Biliran, and the cities of Tacloban and Ormoc have remained under level 1."All other LGUs not mentioned are under Alert Level 2," said the regional health department, citing the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases."Let us continue to be champions of our 'Bida Solusyon' plus campaigns, get vaccinated and boosted for maximum protection against coronavirus disease (Covid-19)," it added.The classification of the IATF is based on the following criteria: case transmission is low and decreasing; total bed utilization is less than 50 percent; 70 percent of the area's target population has been fully vaccinated; and 70 percent of the area's A2 or senior citizens population have been fully vaccinated.Meanwhile, DOH Eastern Visayas reported that 73.4 percent of the region's target population are now vaccinated with at least one dose of Covid-19 vaccines."The region is racing towards strengthening community protection for everyone. As alert level systems are de-escalated in some parts of the region, we continue to encourage more individuals eligible for vaccination to get vaccinated while vaccines are free and available," it said. AFP chief lauds anti-insurgency operations in Eastern Visayas

GENERAL Andres Centino, chief of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), lauded the Philippine Army's 8th Infantry Division and the personnel of Police Regional Office-Eastern Visayas for its successful anti-insurgency operations in the region."We will continue immersion at the grassroots to determine their problems and issues so that the government can assess and provide proper intervention," said Centino.During his recent visit to the region, Centino awarded the Gold Cross Medal to First Lieutenant Adonis Adan Collado, Sergeant Vincent Bulan, Corporal Edwin De Leon, Corporal Ernesto Nunez Jr., Private First Class Bert Bay-an, Private First Class Loige Nocido, Private First Class Jaymark Buctot, Private First Class Ber Flores and Private Nikko Pesidas for their "indispensable service rendered during the conduct of the Development Support and Security Operations."According to Centino, the army personnel in the region "have constantly been performing well in addressing insurgency."On March 25, 2022 alone, a rebel leader, identified as alias Prix, was killed during an encounter with the operating troops of the 20th Infantry Battalion.The Army said the rebel leader was known for alleged extortion activities among residents in Northern Samar.Three M16 assault rifles loaded with magazines and ammunition were also captured during the encounter.Centino also congratulated the army and police personnel for the success of the localized peace engagements through the Samar Peace Panel.According to the army, the panel facilitated the surrender of at least nine rebel members who turned in 30 high-powered firearms, ammunition, medical supplies, and materials used in making anti-personnel mines."These are clear indications that the whole-of-nation program of the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict is the ultimate solution to attain lasting peace and sustained development," the army said in a statement.
