| Surveying activities start at new airport site Posted: 16 Apr 2022 12:37 AM PDT THE local government, through the Office of the City Engineer, has started surveying activities for the proposed new International Airport Development Project in the east coast of Zamboanga City.The new airport site is within the boundaries of Mercedes and Talabaan villages some 13 kilometers away from City Hall.Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar said that with the ongoing survey activities, the local government aims to begin the appraisal of land parcels by May.Salazar accompanied by City Administrator Michael Angelo Saavedra and Jessie Lapinid, assistant planning officer, inspected Wednesday, April 13, the initial survey activities for the proposed new international airport project.The proposed New Zamboanga International Airport Development is a priority project of the City Government pursuant to the City's Comprehensive Land Use Plan, Salazar said.The present site of the Zamboanga International Airport (ZIA) within the boundaries of Sta. Maria and San Roque villages is eyed for conversion into a commercial center.Salazar said the local government and the Department of Transportation (DOTr) have entered into a memorandum of agreement for the utilization of the P200 million fund for the proposed new international airport project.She said that the Land Bank of the Philippines (LBP), through an Agency-to-Agency Agreement, was issued a Notice to Proceed for the appraisal of affected land parcels at the proposed airport site.Salazar said that initial appraisal report by LBP is expected for submission to the City Government on or before June 10, 2022. | Isabela City unveils market project Posted: 16 Apr 2022 12:34 AM PDT THE City Government of Isabela in Basilan province has unveiled the newly renovated fish and seafood section of the city's wet market.Mayor Sitti Djalia Turabin-Hataman said the project, which was unveiled Tuesday, April 12, was realized through the 20-percent development fund of the City Government.Hataman said the renovation is one of her priority infrastructure projects. It is aimed to provide comfort, especially to marketgoers as well as the stallholders.She noted that the previous wet market was markedly dingy and decrepit after years of use by vendors and the consuming public.Hataman said that the vastly improved building now has better accessibility, ventilation, safety, and sanitation."Today, the wet market boasts of glassed-in fish vendors' tables to minimize the presence of flies and foul odors as well as keep fresh fish away from the constant handling and poking by curious customers," Hataman said."A separate prep table and wash station are also readily accessible for vendors to clean the fish of unwanted entrails and inedible parts," she added.At least 116 tables are available in the newly reopened wet market. So far, 87 fresh fish vendors have moved back in, joining the 17 dried fish vendors.The eight other vendors of seaweed, oyster and other fresh seafood will likewise move in after Ramadan.Basilan Representative Mujiv Hataman joined the city mayor in unveiling the project. | Jica donates 6 motorcycles to Mafar-Barmm Posted: 15 Apr 2022 09:57 PM PDT THE Japan International Cooperation Agency (Jica) has donated six units of motorcycles to the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Agrarian Reform in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (Mafar-Barmm) to boost mobility of the agency's personnel.The motorcycles, which were turned over Wednesday, April 13, are part of the second batch of the Rice-Based Farming Technology Transfer sub-program of the Jica – Capacity Development Project for Bangsamoro (Jica-CDPB).Dr. Mohammad Yacob, Mafar minister, said the motorcycles will be used by officer-in-charge Mafar municipal officers (MMO) and agricultural technologists (AT) from the municipalities of Datu Odin Sinsuat, Guindulungan, and Datu Hoffer in Maguindanao.Jica-CDPB Chief Adviser Hirofumi Hoshi said they consider both improving farmers' livelihood through cultivation of upland rice and enhancing public services provided to the farmers.Hoshi said the provision of motorcycles to the Mafar field personnel is beneficial for them in securing better services to the farmers."I would like to request Mafar (to keep) these motorcycles in good conditions and provide necessary cost of operation and maintenance as stipulated in the signed agreement of CDPC-Jica and Mafar," Hoshi said.Yacob said the motorcycles are crucial in monitoring and supervising activities of MMO and AT, particularly on upland rice productions."Our intention is to support the economy of our communities through increasing their upland rice production and to maintain the transfer of skills and technology in these remote communities, our field personnel need to reach them via motorcycles ride," Yacob said."Although we have certain challenges on mobilization like gasoline, I am urging the recipients to take care of these units, use it properly and utilize it according to its purpose," he added.Tong Abas, chief of operation for agriculture services of Mafar, said they will continue to implement the third batch of the Rice-Based Farming Technology Transfer to other Barmm provinces.The Barmm comprises of the provinces Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, and the cities of Cotabato, Marawi, and Lamitan as well as the special geographical area (SGA) in North Cotabato.The SGA consisted of 36 villages in six towns of North Cotabato that opted to be part of Barmm.
