Department of Energy boosts domestic battery supply chain with billions in funding Posted: 02 May 2022 01:41 PM PDT ![]() The Department of Energy (DOE) opened up billions of dollars in funding today to build up domestic supply chains for batteries. Batteries will be crucial in the Biden administration's plans to transition the nation to electric vehicles and clean energy. The DOE says in its announcement that it will give $3.1 billion to companies to boost "the creation of new, retrofitted, and expanded commercial facilities" to process materials, make batteries, and recycle them at the end of their lives. Another $60 million in grants from the DOE will fund efforts to find second uses for old EV batteries. The money comes from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law that passed last year. Spirit will continue to pursue a merger with Frontier instead of JetBlue Posted: 02 May 2022 09:15 AM PDT ![]() Spirit Airline's board of directors has rejected JetBlue's bid to acquire the airline and will proceed with its existing merger agreement with Frontier, one of its ultra-low-cost competitors, Spirit announced in a press release. A deal with JetBlue has "a low probability of receiving antitrust clearance" and poses "an unacceptable level of closing risk" to its shareholders, Spirit notes. After Frontier first announced its plans to buy Spirit in a cash and stock deal valued at $2.9 billion in February, JetBlue followed up with an all-cash offer of $3.6 billion last month.
