High-value drug personality nabbed

POLICEMEN have arrested a high-value target (HVT) suspect in an anti-drug operation in the province of Zamboanga Sibugay, an official said Saturday, June 25, 2022.Police Colonel Albert Larubis, Zamboanga Sibugay police director, identified the arrested suspect as Jayboy Elorde, 31, the top 8 priority target in the town of Ipil, the province'' capital.Larubis said that Elorde was arrested in an anti-drug operation around 11:20 p.m. Friday, June 24, in Purok Dayang in Tiayon village, Ipil.Seized from the suspect were some P7,990 worth of suspected shabu and P500 marked money, Larubis said.He said the suspect was detained pending the filing of formal charges against him. Penro-Zamboanga del Norte holds tree planting

PERSONNEL of the Zamboanga del Norte Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (Penro) have planted 275 seedlings of Narra and Red Nato in Dipolog City, the province's capital.Cidur Julsadjiri, Zamboanga del Norte Penro chief, said the tree-planting activity was in line with the celebration of the Philippine Arbor Day and 159th Anniversary of Philippine Forestry Service.Julsadjiri said the tree seedling were planted Friday, June 24, in Sinaman village, Dipolog City."This initiative aims to help repair ecosystem and widen the network of forestry champions through promotions of proactive reforestation and responsible tourism," Julsadjiri said. He said the tree planting activity was participated by 30 personnel from Zamboanga del Norte PENRO, Philippine National Police, Philippine Ports Authority, and other stakeholders. Soldier, 6 Abu Sayyaf wounded in clash

SEVEN, including six Abu Sayyaf bandits, were wounded in a clash in the hinterlands of Basilan province, the military reported Saturday, June 25, 2022.Brigadier General Domingo Gobway, Joint Task Force (JTF)-Basilan commander, said the clash broke out around 8:30 a.m. Sunday, June 25, in Sitio Mapute, Barangay Baguindan, Tipo-Tipo.Gobway said the troops were conducting combat operations when they clash with a group of Abu Sayyaf bandits led by Pasil Bayali, one of the Basilan-based Abu Sayyaf Group bandit leader."The encounter resulted after the troops responded from the tips of the civilians in the area," Gobway said.Gobway did not identify the injured soldier except to say he belongs to the Army's 18th Infantry Battalion.He said that intelligence report indicated that six Abu Sayyaf bandits were wounded in the clash.Gobway said that some of the Abu Sayyaf bandits involved in the clash are followers of a certain Abaas, who were responsible in the May 31 twin bombing in Isabela City, Basilan.Two people were injured in the May 31 twin bombing that happened at the parking lot of a food chain outlet and in a bus terminal.Gobway said that the followers of Abaas remnants of slain Basilan Abu Sayyaf bandit leader Furuji Indama, who was killed in a clash with government troops on September 9 in the coastal town of R.T. Lim, Zamboanga Sibugay.He noted that the same group of Abu Sayyaf bandits who figured in a clash in April, this year, in Sumisip, Basilan that resulted in the death of bandit leader Razmil Jannatul."Since then our troops continuously tracked the enemy to locate them and deliver the final blow to finally free Basilan from ASG (Abu Sayyaf Group)," he added. Zamboanga City Government resumes distribution of LSAP

THE local government of Zamboanga City, through the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), resumed Friday, June 24, the distribution of the Local Social Amelioration Program (LSAP) to senior citizens.Zamboanga City Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar on Friday led the distribution of cash assistance to senior citizens under the LSAP at the Santa Maria Covered Court.The LSAP forms part of the Covid-19 response initiated by the Salazar administration and is intended to help alleviate the plight of those greatly affected by the pandemic."As I end my term, hopefully all the assistance programs that we started will be continued," Salazar told senior citizens.She urged them to remain focused on their well-being by submitting themselves for vaccination, both the primary and booster doses as well as to avail of anti-flu shots and other medical assistance that are given out for free.For the distribution in Sta. Maria, a total of 2,477 senior citizens from 11 villages under CSWDO Field Office 3 are to receive the cash aid as a form of assistance for individuals in crisis situations.The resumption of the LSAP rollout, facilitated by the CSWDO will continue until June 25, 26 and 27 in different venues.
