| George Michael joined a star-studded lineup at London's Wembley Stadium in 1992 to pay tribute to Freddie Mercury -- the Queen singer would die the next day at the age of 45, blind and bedridden from AIDS. He sang a powerful rendition of the Queen classic, "Somebody to Love," and would later call it "the proudest moment of my career." But it was a performance cloaked in irony. Michael, then 29, was closeted and his boyfriend, Brazilian dress designer and stylist Anselmo Feleppa, was dying of AIDS. The superstar, who had fought his own sexuality for half of his 20s, had finally found love, but a dreaded disease was about to destroy it. "Fate had never seen crueler," author James Gavin writes in his bio, "George Michael: A Life" (Abrams Press), out Tuesday. Read about Michael's lost love below. We take a look at another icon of club life, former Studio 54 owner Mark Fleischman, who explains why he is choosing to end his life at a Swiss clinic. And don't miss the latest on A-Rod's complicated romantic escapades. Have a great first Sunday of summer.
