| Over 45k business permit applications in Davao City from Jan-June 2022 Posted: 19 Jul 2022 10:22 AM PDT THE Davao City Business Bureau noted an increase in business permit applications, exceeding their target of 40,000 for the first half of 2022. Business Bureau head Maribel Paguican told SunStar Davao on June 19 that a total of 45,308 business establishments submitted their applications for business permit registration, from January 1 to June 30, 2022. The bureau initially targeted 40,000 applications for this period but Paguican said the increase was attributed to freelance food and delivery riders and some new businesses that applied for permits. "Business permit ang mga riders kaya (The riders need business permits) that's why we have the increase despite na wala gaanong (of little to no) new establishments. Sila ang naging contributor natin (They've become the contributors)," Paguican said during an interview. "I don't have the data kasi ongoing pa ang registration ng mga riders but nasa more than 2,000 ito (because the registration of the riders is still ongoing but it's at least 2,000)." The number of applications for the first half of 2022 also increased compared to the applications during the same period last year which was 43,427. Of the 45,308 that applied, Paguican said 38,904 successfully registered and were issued business permits by the Business Bureau wherein 35,145 are renewal applicants and 3,759 are new businesses. Most of these businesses are in the services and retail industry while the manufacturing industry recorded the lowest number of registration. "Yung ibang nag apply (but not yet registered), may sabit pa sa Bureau of Fire, sa ibang regulations, yung iba hindi pa nakabayad (Those who have applied but not yet registered still have lacking documents from Bureau of Fire or other regulations while some have not yet paid yet)," she said. Paguican said their office continues to conduct massive monitoring and inspection of business establishments to ensure they have an existing and up to date registration. "When we monitor, lahat yan titignan (we look into all of it). Kapag may permit (If you have a permit), ok lang. May iba na may kulang sa kanilang registration, mayroon naman wala tagala permit so we recommend na kumuha to avoid closure (There are some who have lacking documents for their registration, some do not have a permit at all so we recommend them to apply to avoid closure)," she said. The Business Bureau is expecting to hit its 2022 target of 50,000 applications earlier than expected before the year ends. ICM |
