| Zamboanga City gets P2.7-M share from PCSO lotto operations Posted: 15 Jul 2022 05:24 AM PDT THE City Government has received three checks for P2.7 million representing the share from lotto operations of the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) in Zamboanga City.Pilarcita Florentes, PCSO-Zamboanga branch head, handed the checks while she and the other officials of the local PCSO office paid their courtesy visit Thursday, July 14, to Mayor John Dalipe in City Hall.Florentes said the checks amounting to around P2,660,000 represent the city's shares from the PCSO lottery games in 2021 and first semester of 2022.Dalipe said Friday, July 15, that the city's share will augment the fund of the local government intended for medical assistance to indigent residents of the city.The PCSO is the principal government agency for raising and providing funds for health programs, medical assistance and services and charities of national character.It operates and supervises the charity sweepstakes races, the lottery and other similar activities as a source of funds consistent with its charter.Under the law, the PCSO is mandated to set aside 30 percent of its net receipts from its lotto operations as a Lotto Charity Fund, of which five percent is granted in favor of the local government units where lotto tickets are sold. | ‘Alakdan’ troopers test readiness in 10-km foot march Posted: 15 Jul 2022 05:23 AM PDT MAJOR General Ignatius Patrimonio, commander of the 11th Infantry "Alakdan" Division and Joint Task Force (JTF)-Sulu, led the Alakdan Troopers on a "10-kilometer Foot March" in the province of Sulu.The 10-kilometer walk held on Thursday, July 14, started at the headquarters of JTF-Sulu at Camp General Teodulfo Bautista in Bus-bus village, Jolo, the province's capital to Quezon Beach in Buhanginan village, Patikul.Patrimonio said the activity tested the readiness of the Alakdan troopers, specifically on their abilities to effectively and rapidly act in operational circumstances.The activity is an Alakdan culture and an important component of Army readiness that projects military discipline as an essential part for its members to help build character and contribute to a cohesive team, Patrimonio said.He lauded the Alakdan troopers for their active participation in the activity and to the Headquarters and Headquarters Service Battalion as the unit primarily responsible for organizing the exercise.He noted that the "Foot March" is a method of moving troops from one place to another when transportation is not available and distance to be covered is relatively short. | Most wanted person killed in shootout in Zamboanga del Sur Posted: 15 Jul 2022 05:20 AM PDT ONE of the top most wanted persons in the country was killed in a shootout with law enforcement early Friday, July 15, 2022, in the province of Zamboanga del Sur, the police reported.Police Colonel Diomarie Albarico, Zamboanga del Sur police director, identified the slain most wanted person as Esmael Sanday alias Boy Negro, a member of the Kiang Balimbingan crime group based in Zamboanga Sibugay province.Albarico said Sanday was killed in a shootout around 5:55 a.m. Friday, July 15, in Sitio Gappi, Lenok Madalum village, Lapuyan, Zamboanga del Sur.He said the shootout ensued when Sanday pulled a caliber .45 pistol and opened fire while the policemen were about to serve warrants of arrest against him.Albarico said the policemen returned fire, hitting Sanday who was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead by the attending physician.He said Sanday had standing warrants of arrest for two cases of murder in separate courts in Zamboanga del Sur and one for frustrated murder in Zamboanga Sibugay.Albarico said that a cash reward of P165,000 was at stake for the arrest of Sanday based on the Department of the Interior and Local Government Memorandum Circular Number 2021-120 dated October 20, 2021.
