| Survey: Dabawenyos want Mayor Baste to prioritize employment generation Posted: 11 Jul 2022 08:14 AM PDT DABAWENYOS want Davao City Mayor Sebastian Duterte to prioritize jobs and employment generation under his term, according to the recent survey results of the University of Mindanao Institute of Popular Opinion (UM-IPO). The UM-IPO survey, conducted from June 22 to July 1, 2022 and had total respondents of 1,200 Dabawenyos, revealed that 61.7 percent of them want jobs and employment generation as a top focus project of Duterte's administration. This was followed by flood control projects 61.1 percent, then by a solid waste processing complex (46.6 percent). Following this roster are skills training and community-based programs (41.5 percent), medical and funeral assistance (40.4 percent), and the Scholarships on Tertiary Education Program (40.4 percent). Coming in the sixth to tenth programs include upgrading of facilities for emergency responses (39.9 percent), education assistance for persons with disabilities and special needs (37.8 percent), housing projects (37.2 percent), and investment and support for City College of Davao (37.2 percent), upgrading of city road quality towards implementation of High Priority Bus System (36.8 percent), and digitization/creation of online systems for government transactions (36.3 percent). The survey also determined the five least-preferred programs as perceived by Dabawenyos namely: maintenance of Quick Response Team for children's concerns (13 percent), investment missions to Southeast Asian markets (9.3 percent), enforcement of local portal for Freedom of Information (8.8 percent), maintenance of the Kusina ng Bayan or mobile kitchen services (7.3 percent), and forging of sister city agreements with cities in the Philippines and abroad (4.7 percent). Duterte, who recently assumed the position after being a vice mayor for a term, said during his oath-taking speech held in front of the City Hall on June 27, that economic recovery and poverty alleviation will be at the forefront of his administration. "The City Government will make sure that business will continue to operate. Job opportunities will be available and our citizens remain safe and healthy," the mayor said. He said the city government will also work closely with the local and foreign business sectors to explore more investment opportunities in the city. Duterte cited the digitalization of government transactions as a way of enhancing the business climate in Davao City to attract more businesses and sustain existing ones. In addition, he said the local government will ensure global competitiveness in terms of government operations. The young Mayor said that taking advantage of available technology will make the government keep up with the fast-changing trends in the market. He also vowed to pursue the streamlining of government processes and declared that inefficiencies in the government will not be tolerated. RGL |
| Ferry's ramp opens after cable snaps Posted: 11 Jul 2022 08:02 AM PDT THE ramp of a ferry board traveling to Island Garden City of Samal (Igacos) accidentally opened on Monday afternoon, July 11. The uploader, who requested not to be named, told SunStar Davao in an online interview, that the incident happened around 2 p.m. He said the ferry had to return to Sasa Wharf in Davao City following the incident. Mae Wess operations manager Felix Arboleda told SunStar Davao in a phone interview that the cable holding the ramp snapped after the boat was already an estimated 20 meters away from Sasa Wharf. Upon return, he said their personnel immediately changed the cable before the barge was allowed to operate again. Arboleda, however, said that no passenger was affected during the incident. He said they encountered a similar incident in the past. "Kadaghan naman ni [nahitabo] kay dili man gud nato ma-predict nato kay ang kable gatuyok na gikan sa ilalom and dili makita sa engineer (This had happened a several times already, because we cannot predict what would happen knowing the cable is below and the engineer cannot totally monitor it)," Arboleda said. The manager, meanwhile, assured passengers that all of their barges undergo thorough inspection by the Maritime Industry Authority (Marina) before it will be allowed to sail. "Naa mi mekaniko na naga-conduct og maintenance. Naa gyud mi oncall maintenance engineer na na-assign sa barko, ug naa sab mi naka-standby sa port (We have mechanics that conduct routinary maintenance. We also have oncall maintenance engineer assigned at the barge, and the other positioned at the port)," Arboleda said. Meanwhile, he encouraged passengers, who will be in the same situation, to stay calm. In addition, he said they prohibit passengers from positioning themselves near the ramp while the trip is ongoing. RGL |
| 92 malnourished kids under CSWDO care Posted: 11 Jul 2022 07:43 AM PDT CITY Social Welfare and Development Office-Davao (CSWDO-Davao) said 92 preschoolers enrolled in the school year 2021-2022 are still malnourished after their supplementary feeding program. "Adunay 157 [enrolled students], after sa 120 feeding days, naa nay nabilin nga 92 ka mga bata kato lang enrolled sa daycare centers ug home-based (There are 157 enrolled students but after the 120 feeding days of the supplemental feeding program there are still 92 malnourished children who are enrolled in the daycare centers and home-based)," Ellen Bugnos, Focal Person Supplemental Feeding Program of Preschoolers and Childrens Concern Division (PSCCD), CSWDO-Davao said in an interview with the Davao City Disaster Radio on July 11, 2022. Bugnos said these students were referred to the City Health Office-Davao (CHO-Davao) for intervention. "Kay naa man sa ilaha didto ang programa and intervention nga tama kung unsaon nato ni nga mga bata kay nahumana sila sa atoa still mao man ilahang nutritional status (We refer them to CHO because they have the right programs and intervention on what to do with these children since we already implemented and finished our program but they still have the same nutritional status)," Bugnos said. Bugnos said they are monitoring these children monthly. "Monthly ni sila gina-weigh sa mga daycare worker nato in coordination with BNS (Brgy Nutrition Scholar), unya ginatagaan ang mga ginikanan og seminar sa health and nutrition, unsaon pag-take care ang ilahang mga anak nga undernourished, unya hisgutan ang kanang unsa ang mga pamaagi para mo-angat ang ilahang timbang, unsa ang buhaton para ang bata mokaon gyud og maayo (The daycare worker in coordination with the BNS weigh these children, then we conduct a seminar about health and nutrition for the parents, on how to take care of their undernourished children, also we'll discuss on what are the ways to gain weight and what should they do to encourage their children to eat more)," Bugnos said. Meanwhile, Bugnos said they will conduct orientation to all the daycare workers in the 14 districts of Davao City on how to properly weigh the students, monitor, record, and what is the supplementary feeding program in preparation for face-to-face classes this August 2022. | SSS monitors 16 delinquent employers in Davao Posted: 11 Jul 2022 07:33 AM PDT A TOTAL of 16 establishments were identified as delinquent employers by the Social Security System in Davao Region (SSS-Davao) last June 28 and 29, 2022. Account officer Greta Quayle said on Monday, July 11 that these establishments were identified through the Ran After Contribution Evaders (Race) program, which calls out delinquent but still existing businesses. "Baka nag taka kayo bakit 16 lang sa dinami-dami ng employers (You might question why only 16 were identified out of thousands of employers, because), the Davao branch was asked to list down the top 20 employers na (that are) highly delinquent and still existing," Quayle said during the Kapehan sa Dabaw media forum on July 11, 2022 at the SM City Davao. According to Quayle, the establishments have varying nature of business, including a banana plantation, security agency, management consultancy services, and retail trades but five of the 16 delinquent employers have started to comply as of Monday. "During the pandemic, we gave due consideration. Ito talaga subject sa (But for this group, they are subject to) Race, even prior to the pandemic delinquent na talaga sila (they were already delinquent)," she said. "Meron tayo may delinquency na at (There are some who have a delinquency of) least P2.4 million or P9 million," she added. Quayle said the Race program was not to ridicule the delinquent employers since there are also other factors to their outstanding balances. "Even some of the owners, employers, hindi alam na delinquent sila because may mga empleyado na takot mag complain, (or) hindi nila alam na nananakawan na siya ng book keeper or representative (They do not know they are delinquent because there are employees afraid to complain or they are not aware they have been scammed by their book keepers or representatives)," she said. In order to provide breathing room for delinquent employers with high outstanding contributions, employers are usually given a maximum of 30 days to comply, apply for assistance, or avail of the Pandemic Relief and Restructuring Program. Those who exceed more than 30 days may be subject to civil and criminal cases filed by the agency, said Quayle. ICM |
| SSS to teach members how to transact online Posted: 11 Jul 2022 07:28 AM PDT THE Social Security System in Davao Region (SSS-Davao) said they will teach non-tech savvy members how to transact online following the mandate of online filing of services and benefits. During the Kapehan sa Dabaw media forum on July 11, account officer Greta Quayle of SSS-Davao said members can come to the SSS e-Center office where they can be guided properly. "May dedicated computers kami doon tsaka may personnel kami sa e-Center - e-Center ang tawag namin - who will assist them so kung pwede sila talaga paupuin namin (We have dedicated computers and personnel at the office called the e-Center who will assist them but as much as possible, we want the members to be the ones using the computer)," Quayle said. This way, Quayle said those who have no gadgets or do not have access to the internet can safely learn online transactions and avoid security breaches of their accounts. "Nacocompromise ang security nila kasi nagpapaturo sila sa internet cafes, nalalaman ang kanilang passwords, so nagiging cause siya ng fraud (The security is compromised because many members ask for help at public internet cafes and their passwords are exposed, this could cause fraud)," she said. A total of 30 computers will be made available at the SSS office in the future for the purpose of accommodating the online transaction concerns of members, Quayle added. This is following the mandate of SSS to file retirement, sickness, and maternity leave benefits, among others, via online in line with the goal to make transactions digitized. At least 85 percent of SSS-Davao's system is already digitized, and online, except for death claims and disability benefits. Quayle said SSS-Davao usually caters to 500 to 700 members daily for different services but through digitalization, members will lessen their trips to SSS branches. ICM |
| District health center vax vs. Covid-19 rolls out Posted: 11 Jul 2022 07:12 AM PDT AFTER a few days of dry runs, vaccination against Covid-19 in the 18 district health centers of Davao City officially started on Monday; bringing Covid-19 vaccination services closer and more accessible to all Dabawenyos. The vaccines are available to clients aged 5 and above. All district health centers have a "no wrong door" policy, where clients do not necessarily need to reside in a specific district to avail of Covid vaccine shots from the district health center there. The Tomas Claudio Health Center, which covers the 10 barangays within District A, conducted a dry-run of district health vaccinations on Thursday last week and was deemed successful. According to District Health Physician for District A Dr. Harlyn Jan B. Espela, in an interview with the City Information Office on Monday, the number of vaccinees that visited the health center since its dry-run on Thursday numbered over a hundred. She said that most clients they have catered to are those looking to be jabbed with booster shots. "Diri sa Tomas Claudio sa District A, daghan-daghan pud mi'g mga vaccinees since nag-start mi og vaccination. Actually, last week nagsugod na mi Thursday; dili mubaba sa one hundred ang nagapa-vaccine sa amo every day (Here at Tomas Claudio District A, we've catered to a significant number of vaccinees since we started the vaccination. We actually started Thursday last week; no less than one hundred clients get their shots from us every day)," Espela said. Espela added that the district health center caters to all clients regardless of their address and that mobile vaccinations at the barangay levels are currently being eyed. "Actually, tanang muanhi dihi sa Tomas Claudio gina-cater namo regardless kung District A sila or District B. Maski gikan sila'g layo nga area gina-cater namo diri. Pero ang target gyud namo is ma-cater namo tanan barangay sa District A. And hopefully, ang plano namin is mag-mobile mismo (Actually, we cater to all clients who come here in Tomas Claudio regardless of whether they come from District A or B. Though they come from other areas, we cater to them here. But, our target is to really cater to all the barangays in District A. And hopefully, our plan is to really go mobile)," Espela added. Meanwhile, at the Talomo South District Health Center, mobile vaccinations had been launched on Wednesday last week along with the operationalization of the district health center vaccination program. This, according to District Health Officer Dr. Margie Roa-Rubio in an interview with the CIO on Monday. Roa-Rubio said that since the rollout of vaccination in the district health centers and the launching of mobile vaccination in the NHA Bangkal Gym on Wednesday last week, a total of 378 individuals received shots, of whom, 110 belonged to the pediatric age groups 5-11 and 12-17. The District Health Officer said that the Talomo South District Health Center is coordinating with school principals of the elementary schools in the district to encourage students and their parents to get inoculated or avail of booster shots. Roa-Rubio also said that mobile vaccination programs targeting Barangays Baliok, Dumoy, Bago Gallera, Bago Aplaya, and Talomo Proper are slated this week. Covid-19 vaccines are available in the 18 district health centers in Davao city from Monday to Friday, between 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. All other district health services such as general consultations, prenatal care, immunization for children, and others remain available to the public on top of the inoculation program against Covid-19.
