| Happy Friday to you all. Here's hoping you have some good weekend plans to relax a little and have some fun, because these summer days are numbered, right? We're already thinking back-to-school stories here. For one of those pieces, we're asking teachers to tell us how they wish parents interacted with them. Are you a teacher, or do you know one? Come tell us what you think here. I'm deep into summer reading mode here as neither of our kids has finished their summer projects yet. (One is currently reading "Born a Crime" and the other is about to start "Catcher in Rye" – that teenage rite of passage.) I recently picked up a middle grade book called "A Perfect Mistake," and couldn't put it down. It was just what I had been looking for a few years back for my older son. When I finished it, I handed it to our 12-year-old. He kept turning his light on late (very late) because he had to know what happened next. If you're looking for more summer reading suggestions, try this list of banned books, recommended by some really terrific people. Meanwhile, thank you all for sharing thoughts on how gun violence has impacted your parenting. There's still time to tell us what you are doing. Your words have been meaningful and thoughtful, and I'm appreciative. (Have you read this piece in the Atlantic this week, about the "weary panic" we have, thanks to the brutal gun violence in our country?) For a nice palate cleanser, check out this delightful story about the stuffed animal sleepover at this public library. (Librarians are such heroes.) Wishing you all the best for a restful summer weekend.
