I'm sitting here through a heat wave, but thrilled my kids escaped the D.C. heat and are at camp for a nice break. Hoping you and yours are finding a moment, too. We have a very informative piece today by Elizabeth Chang about how to talk to your teens about birth control (and, obviously, sex). Did you know many states don't mandate sex education? Or they offer sex education that "emphasizes abstinence, an approach that, research shows, does not encourage adolescents to delay intercourse or reduce the risks that accompany it"? It's imperative that we caregivers make sure we're educating our children. And in some cases, that means talking to them about birth control. None of this is easy, but the earlier you start talking about how babies are made and consent and all that goes with it, the better.
