Amazon's Prime Day — all two days of it — is just around the corner. Our deals team will be out in force to cover it on July 12th and 13th, but the deals have started plenty early. We've already been compiling some of the best early Prime Day deals, and there will be much more on Tuesday and Wednesday. If you're a little nervous about being able to keep track of all the discounts and Lightning Deals, fear not, as we'll be hosting a liveblog and sending some special newsletters so you can have the deals come to you in a neat little package via email. In fact, if you want to get even further details on what we expect during Prime Day and what each of us is hyped (or not hyped) for, listen to the recording of the live discussion we had yesterday on Twitter Spaces. All of us deal hunters and writers on the deals team took turns talking about Prime Day and answering reader questions. Yes, you get to hear our voices. Weird, right? Today, we're highlighting some of the best early Prime Day deals you can get right now — including some odds and ends that may get overshadowed — as well as a few special deals from earlier in the week that are still available. We hope to be saving you lots of money next week, and maybe even give you a chuckle in the liveblog on Tuesday. |

Amazon's upcoming sale event means it's once again time for the retail giant to practically hurl the latest Echo Dots at you, in the hopes that you adopt the Alexa voice assistant as your lord and savior smart assistant of choice. If one of these little speakers seems handy to you — for setting reminders and timers or commanding other smart home devices with your voice — then you only need $19.99 to get one today (and likely through Prime Day). That's more than half off the price, and $30 below the regular list price. These little speakers don't get any cheaper than this, so you can even stock up if you want to plant a few of them around your home. The latest model supports a variety of music streaming services, including Spotify and Amazon Music, and even comes in three colors — white, black, and blue — all of which are part of the sale. Yell at your appliances to turn on or off with these smart power strips that are up to 42 percent off |
It's easy to get hyped up for possible deals on the big stuff for Prime Day, but in my personal experience, it's the little odds and ends that become the most valued purchases. So with that in mind, check out these great Amazon deals on two smart power strips. One is the Kasa Smart Plug Power Strip HS300, which is currently discounted to $46.99 ($33 off), and the other is the Meross Smart Power Strip with HomeKit support, now just $32.99 ($20 off) when you clip the on-page coupon. Both offer surge protection and individual smart connectivity for each outlet. The main decider between the two is if you value paying more for the six outlets of the Kasa or saving money and getting four outlets and Apple HomeKit support with the Meross. Both feature some USB-A plugs — three on the Kasa and four on the Meross — but neither gives you smart controls over what's plugged into those. It may be a tossup, but either one is a helpful smart home accessory to get old, "dumb" appliances on your connected network. |

The Meross Smart Power Strip and surge protector offers four outlets with support for Apple HomeKit, Amazon Alexa, Google Home, and the Samsung SmartThings ecosystem. Although it doesn't feature an abundance of outlets, it does have four USB-A ports. |

Prime Day time isn't only about deals at Amazon. Other retailers have been having some great sales, and you can expect to see a bunch more on Tuesday and Wednesday as retailers like Best Buy and Target try to combat Amazon's tentpole event. One example is the 13.3-inch HP Envy x360, one of our favorite budget laptops, which is currently on sale at Best Buy for $699.99 ($350 off). It's got some fairly powerful hardware for what's now an extra-affordable price. The Envy has an OLED touchscreen panel with 1920 x 1080 resolution that can be folded back like a tablet. This configuration comes equipped with an 11th Gen Intel Core i7 CPU, Intel Iris Xe graphics, 512GB of storage, and 8GB of RAM. It also supports Thunderbolt 4 for speedy transfer speeds. You can't go wrong picking up the Windows 2-in-1 at this price, especially if you're working with a tight budget and need an efficient laptop with great battery life. Read our review the AMD configuration. |

Nothing gets a tech nerd excited quite like a speedy USB-C cable that's on sale at a good price. And what's this? A speedy USB-C cable with a built-in power meter for seeing what wattage your device is charging at? Music to our nerdy ears. Chipofy's LED-equipped USB-C cable is currently down to just $16.69 at Amazon when you click the on-page coupon for an additional $2 off. In total, that's $9.30 off of the cable's regular price. It's not just a gimmick, either; it's a 6.6-foot cable that supports charging up to 100W, meaning it's powerful enough to support a laptops as big as a 16-inch MacBook Pro. If anything, you owe it to yourself to read the write-up by our own Sean Hollister regarding how nifty this cable is. |
