Grants Available to Support High Hazard Dam Repairs The Request for Applications is available online through the New York State Grants Gateway. Apply by February 10, 2023. ELAP Certification Required for Labs Conducting Whole Effluent Toxicity Tests Starting January 1, 2023, DEC will require municipal and industrial wastewater treatment facilities to use labs certified under the NYS Department of Health (DOH) Environmental Laboratory Approval Program (ELAP) for all Whole Effluent Toxicity (WET) testing. New CAFO Permit Effective January 23 DEC issued the final SPDES General Permit for Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations (CAFOs) (GP-0-22-001). This permit will be effective on January 23, 2023, replacing the previous permit, GP-0-16-001. Find the final permit, fact sheet, and responsiveness summary on DEC's CAFO webpage. 3rd Annual Virtual Harmful Algal Bloom Research Symposium The Harmful Algal Bloom Action Team, a collaboration of water professionals, researchers, and educators from the national network of Water Resources Research Institutes, the North Central Region Water Network, and Cooperative Extensions from the 12 states in the North Central Region of the United States, is holding its third annual Harmful Algal Bloom Research Symposium on January 5 and 6, 2023. This virtual symposium is free. Visit the North Central Region Water Network's website for more information. Entries Due January 6 for Create a Watershed Super Hero Poster Contest DEC and the New York Water Environment Association (NYWEA) are sponsoring a "Create a Watershed Super Hero" poster contest open to all middle school students.
