The 2018 shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida killed 17 people and injured 17 more. Peterson, who was fired by the Broward Sheriff's Office after the shooting, has long insisted there was nothing he could do to prevent the killings. He was charged with culpable negligence and child neglect.
