Environment Alert: Ancient soil shows Greenland was once ice-free — and could soon melt again, scientists say

An analysis of long-lost material from underneath Greenland's ice sheet shows it was tundra about 416,000 years ago — when Earth's temperature wasn't much higher than it is now, according to a study released Thursday.
