Dyson's latest vacuum shoots green laser beams

The pandemic has been hard on many industries. But for Dyson, which sells vacuum cleaners and air purifiers, business is booming.

As James Dyson told me in an interview, his company is taking this moment, not to retreat, but to expand. It’s opening dozens of new brick and mortar stores this year across the world. And it’s releasing more new products than ever in the company’s 29-year history.

Among those new products is the V15 Detect vacuum, which uses a laser—yes, a laser—to target otherwise invisible dust in your space. It also has a special sensor that lets you track what you’re sucking up, right down to the tiniest particles that can end up in our lungs.

After talking to Dyson and trying the V15 for myself, it’s clear that the company is betting big on a germaphobe future where we’re still willing to go to a store. Read more from my interview with James Dyson and my hands-on with the V15 Detect here.
