| Carmen remains the village with highest Covid-19 deaths Posted: 20 Mar 2021 05:15 AM PDT BARANGAY Carmen remains to be the village that has the most number of coronavirus disease (Covid-19) deaths in Cagayan de Oro, recording a total of 21 deaths, City Epidemiologist Dr. Joselito Retuya reported Saturday, March 20, 2021. Barangay Carmen, however, is one of the areas in the city with the lowest case fatality rate, lesser than the case fatality rate of Cagayan de Oro, which is at 4.3 to 4.8 percent. Following Carmen are Barangay Lapasan with 18 deaths; Barangay Macabalan with 15; Barangay Gusa with 15; Barangay Camaman-an with 13; Barangay Bugo with 12; Barangay Balulang with 11; Barangay Tablon with 10; Barangay Puntod with nine; Barangay Bulua with nine; Barangay Kauswagan with eight; Barangay Cugman with six; and Barangay Lumbia with six. Barangay Puntod also remains to be the barangay with the highest case fatality rate in the city at 13.04 percent. The barangay with the second-highest case fatality rate is Barangay Macabalan at 11.45 percent, followed by Barangays Tablon (10.20 percent), Gusa (9.87 percent), Lapasan (7.69 percent), Camaman-an (7.69 percent), Cugman (6.45 percent), Bugo (6.12 percent), and Bulua (5 percent). Barangays with case fatality rate less than five percent are Barangays Balulang (4.85 percent), Carmen (4.36 percent), Lumbia (4.35 percent), and Kauswagan (2.54 percent). Barangays Carmen also has the most number of Covid-19 cases in the city at 482. The rest of the barangays are Barangay Kauswagan with 315 cases; Barangay Lapasan with 234; Barangay Balulang with 227; Barangay Bugo with 196; Barangay Bulua with 180; Barangay Camaman-an with 169; Barangay Gusa with 152; Barangay Lumbia with 138; Barangay Macabalan with 131; Barangay Tablon with 98; Barangay Cugman with 93; and Barangay Puntod with 69. | 8 Kagay-anons contract coronavirus Posted: 20 Mar 2021 05:14 AM PDT THE number of new coronavirus disease (Covid-19) cases in Cagayan de Oro continued to drop as the City Health Office reported only eight residents who tested positive for the virus. This brought the total number of confirmed infections in the city to 3,993. According to Acting City Health Officer Dr. Lorraine Nery, two of the eight new cases are local cases with link, while the other six are local index cases. Of the 3,993 total Covid-19 cases in the city, 423 were under the returning overseas Filipino workers/locally stranded individuals (ROFs/LSIs) category and 3,570 cases were local transmissions. Nery said the 3,570 local cases consist of 189 persons deprived of liberty (PDL), 1,914 local index cases and 1,466 local cases with link. Cagayan de Oro has recorded 152 active cases, 47 of whom are admitted to the Northern Mindanao Medical Center and other hospitals in the city, 104 are outpatients, and one ROF. The city also registered 11 new coronavirus-positive persons who are now tagged as "recovered," bringing the total number of recoveries in Cagayan de Oro to 3,650, with a 91.40 percent recovery rate. Of the figure, 302 were LSIs, 119 were ROFs, and 3,229 were local cases (community: 2,727; Apors: 502). The number of Covid-19 deaths in the city is now at 191. | Mural to honor frontliners' heroism Posted: 20 Mar 2021 05:13 AM PDT IN A bid to show appreciation to the frontline healthcare workers' dedication to serving the public in the ongoing fight against the coronavirus disease (Covid-19), a gratitude wall was recently unveiled along Corrales Street, in front of the Seda Hotel in Cagayan de Oro City. The mural was commissioned through a partnership between Foodpanda and the Provincial Government of Misamis Oriental, KCI Kagayhaan Gold, and Boysen paints. It was produced by the Cagayan de Oro City's well-known local artists who collaborated to create the masterpiece that shows the images of the modern-day heroes. "We would like to honor our frontliners, not only in the medical field, but also in other sectors who kept us going through this pandemic," said Javie Deocampo-Llagas, the city manager of Foodpanda Cagayan de Oro, Malaybalay, and Valencia City. "We are very happy to have partnered with the local government of Misamis Oriental to be able to highlight the bravery of our fellow Filipinos and value their perseverance and hard work even through these uncertain times," she added. JCI Kagayhaan Gold David Piol expressed his gratitude to the Provincial Government for allowing the Foodpanda, JCI, and Boysen to display the mural on one of the walls near the Provincial Capitol. "Though wala naka attend si Governor but we would like to extend our gratitude to Governor Bambi Emano for approving the mural diri sa atong provincial wall so thank you so much to Governor Bambi Emano," Piol said. Provincial Tourism head lawyer Jeffrey Saclot attended the unveiling as the representative of the Provincial Government. Jena Morales, one of the local artists who painted the mural, thanked Foodpanda for the opportunity to highlight the talent that is thriving in the province. According to Morales, the main concept of the mural is centered on the heroism of the frontline healthcare workers. "In partnership with foodpanda, we are showing the world that we honor all our medical workers and also the people in the field of food business such as our food delivery drivers and many more," Morales said. She added that the mural also showcased famous landmarks within Misamis Oriental. Morales said they emphasized the simplicity of life in the layout. "The Sacred Heart of Jesus symbolizes our faith and the syringe symbolizes Hope, that one day we can move on from this and find a cure to end this pandemic," she added. Along with Morales, the mural was created by Emmanuel Mulawan II, John Aaron Martizano, Jhuemarie Abueva, Jasper Rosalejos, and Romando Lonon. The gratitude wall is a pilot project of Foodpanda for the frontliners, in hopes that it will inspire other cities to create a similar mural.
