Video of the Week: This is why we need the PRO Act

reaDER,

The votes are still being tallied in the unionization drive at an Amazon warehouse in Bessemer, Alabama, putting the issue of collective bargaining and the need to unionize more American workers at the forefront of our political discussion.

Amazon's anti-union campaign does not stand alone in a vacuum. Amazon is part of a long history of employers that have opposed union organizing.

Employers commonly use a variety of tactics, legal and illegal, to make it difficult for workers to form unions. The Protecting the Right to Organize (PRO) Act—the most significant overhaul of labor law since the New Deal—would help level the playing field. Take a moment to watch EPI President Thea Lee explain how.

If Amazon workers win a union at the Alabama facility, the results of the election will further energize the labor movement. If Amazon's efforts at union avoidance prove successful, however, the election will serve as the most recent example of employers thwarting workers' efforts to organize a union.

Together, we must call on Congress to pass the PRO Act which would be a critical first step to improving pay, benefits, and workers' rights for millions of people throughout our country.

reaDER, if you haven't already, click here to send a letter to your U.S. Senators urging them to pass the PRO Act to fight attacks on collective bargaining and make it easier for millions of American workers to unionize.

Thank you for all you do to fight for an economy that works for all of us, not just the wealthy few.

Thank you,
