City health warns public from using medical oxygen without doctor's prescription Posted: 26 May 2021 06:10 AM PDT THE City Health Office of Cagayan de Oro is advising individuals to refrain from administering medical oxygen without the prescription and guidance from their doctors or personal physicians. "We do not generally recommend na kamo-kamo lang or individually lang mag buot-buot nga mag-administer sa oxygen sa ilang kaugalingon unless you have your doctor's prescription and guidance," Acting City Health Officer Dr. Lorraine Nery said during the daily press briefing at the city hall on Wednesday, May 26. According to Nery, oxygen tanks are needed by individuals who have respiratory illnesses like chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases, since these cases are under the direction of their doctors. However, this is not the case for general consumption. "Dili pwede nga kung naglisod ra ka og ginhawa ginagmay or giubo magkuha dayon ka og oxygen," Nery said. "Remember, oxygen is also a drug. Consider man pud na nga tambal and its also being regulated by the Food and Drug Administration. Ang pag-administer ani depende sa clinical profile sa usa ka individual," she added. This was echoed by city epidemiologist Dr. Joselito Retuya who said that medical oxygen is for medical purposes only. Retuya said there are patients who are in need of oxygenation while they are bedridden at their homes. He further said that they have the consent of their physicians and prescription to buy their medical oxygen. "I will ask the regional office kung unsa ang mga patakaran for these oxygen tanks that are being bought and then naa ra sa mga panimalay," Retuya said. At present, there is a huge demand of oxygen tanks in India. Cagayan de Oro City Mayor Oscar Moreno hoped that the city will not reach that point.
