This pandemic has turned so much upside down. The number of teens with depression and anxiety is astonishing. And yet, there's one group of youths that may be having even more trouble: Those who depend on in-person peer interaction to truly feel understood. I'm grateful to have Katie Hurley's helpful piece at On Parenting; she interviewed LGBTQ teens who told her what this pandemic has felt like to them, and how parents can actually help them get through. Read on for advice that all caregivers and teachers could use, not only those who live with teens like the ones she spoke to. Our kids need so much from us these days, but a lot of what they've really missed typically comes from their friends in dorms, hallways and clubs. (Get here quick, vaccines. The kids need you.) Here's to better times, and to the helpers, like those in this piece.
