Vaccination program in Cagayan de Oro needs to accelerate, mayor says

CAGAYAN de Oro City Mayor Oscar Moreno on Monday, May 31, 2021, said there is a need to accelerate the vaccination program in the city, increasing the target vaccinees to 2,000 a day.

"Naa na may another batch na sad na bakuna. We need to accelerate our vaccination program," Moreno said.

"Increase nato to 2,000 [individuals] a day. Hopefully, in the coming days maka-increase na ta to 3,000 a day," he added.

The city mayor said that despite the help from the barangay health workers, barangay nutrition scholars, and the community development volunteers, there is still a need for more volunteers to help sustain the city's vaccination rollout.

Apart from that, Moreno also mentioned that he had instructed the City Health Office to make the operations of the city isolation units (CIUs) and temporary treatment and monitoring facilities (TTMFs) more efficient, as well as make the extraction of Covid-positive individuals faster as the number of positive cases continue to rise.

"We need to do the extraction faster and more efficiently than what we're doing now. Nakasabot ko nga kung simbako mosaka pa, we will have to augment our TTMF and CIU," Moreno said.

Over the weekend, Cagayan de Oro logged 170 new cases, of which one was a locally stranded individual (LSI), 87 were local index cases, 54 were local cases with link, 13 were local authorized persons outside residence, eight were Apors with link, and seven were deaths.

The city also recorded 1,213 active cases wherein 294 were admitted to the Northern Mindanao Medical Center and other hospitals in the city, 918 were outpatients currently staying at the CIUs and TTMFs, and one was an LSI.

Cagayan de Oro records 170 new Covid-19 cases over the weekend

THE Cagayan de Oro City Health Office logged 170 new coronavirus disease (Covid-19) cases over the weekend, bringing the total number of confirmed infections in the city to 7,121.

Acting City Health Officer Dr. Lorraine Nery said of the 147 new cases, one was a locally stranded individual (LSI), 54 were close contacts of previously confirmed cases, 87 were local index cases, 13 were local authorized persons outside residence (Apors), eight were Apors with link, and seven deaths.

Of the 7,121 total Covid-19 cases in the city, 440 were under the returning overseas Filipino workers/locally stranded individuals (ROFs/LSIs) category and 6,681 cases were local transmissions.

Cagayan de Oro recorded 1,213 active cases, 294 of whom were admitted to the Northern Mindanao Medical Center and other hospitals in the city, 918 were outpatients, and one LSI.

Cagayan de Oro also registered 104 new coronavirus-positive persons who were tagged as "recovered," bringing the total number of recoveries in Cagayan de Oro to 5,587, with an 78.45-percent recovery rate.

Of the figure, 313 were LSIs, 124 were ROFs, and 5,150 were local cases (community: 4,339; Apors: 811).

The number of Covid-19 deaths in the city was now at 321.
