Despite disability, Ipoy remains hopeful in life

HE was born with no legs (congenital amputation) but this didn't stop him from striving in life.

Ryan "Ipoy" Moralidad, 21, a resident of Purok 3, Barangay Sibsib, Tulunan town in Cotabato, Philippines made rounds on social media on June 11 as many were inspired by his hard work and perseverance.

He can do several things, just like what people with complete body parts can do.

He makes charcoal, sells it at P350 per sack, and helps his family in farming for a living. Ipoy also helps his family with other household chores. Ipoy's father died when he was still 18. At present, he lives with his mother and other siblings.

"Maayo ug but-an gyud ni si Ipoy. Wala namo ni siya sugua apan kaugalingong desisyon niya ang motabang sa amoa. Kanang iyang paghimo og uli, pag-uma, ug uban pa, iyaha ra na natun-an pag tan-aw lang sa mga tao nga gabuhat ato (Ipoy is a kind and helpful man. We didn't force him to do these things but he voluntarily does these for us. He said he wanted to earn and help us. No one really taught him one-on-one to do charcoal making and farming, he just learned it from observing from other people)," Irine O. Dioso, Ipoy's sister-in-law shared in an interview with SunStar Davao.

Ipoy stopped schooling when he was in grade one due to extreme bullying experience.

"Tani hindi na ko nila pagsunlugon pero sadya ko nga may ara ko sang mga abyan nga kaintindi kag baton ko (I hope they will stop teasing me but I am happy that I have friends now who understand and accept me)," Ipoy shared in Hiligaynon.

Despite his situation, Ipoy remains hopeful. He dreams of becoming a successful businessman in the future.

Maski na amo ko sini makabulig gyapon ko sa akon pamilya kag sila man ang rason ngaa ko gapaningkamot (Despite having no legs, I can still help my family. They are the very reason why I keep going and strive in life).

When asked what his message to his fellow Persons With Disabilities (PWDs), this was his response: I hope you will not lose hope. I know you can find ways to help your family. You are capable.

Ipoy's determination and hard work is an inspiration to many that no matter your situation, life remains worth living.

Mayor Isko to play ‘Bonifacio’ in a new historical film

Posted: 12 Jun 2021 12:08 AM PDT

PRODUCERS of the much-anticipated legacy film project have handpicked Manila City Mayor Franciso "Isko Moreno" Domagoso to portray the role of Andres Bonifacio, the Father of the Philippine Revolution.

The film, which will be directed by Erik Matti and produced by Dondon Monteverde under Regal Entertainment, will reveal discoveries on the life of the fallen revolutionary.

Monteverde said the outstanding parallels in the lives of Mayor Isko and Bonifacio led to their decision to offer the role to the young mayor.

"Aside from their physical resemblance, both were theater actors who hailed from Tondo, Manila. And just like Moreno, the hero's father, Santiago Bonifacio, was a former Manila mayor," he shared in a press statement.

Matti, for his part, said Isko's action in his first month as local chief executive of Manila like cleaning up and restoring the Bonifacio Shrine beside the Manila City Hall also speaks volumes of how he values the late hero.

This action was also hailed by the surviving descendants of Bonifacio, specifically his great-granddaughter Susan Meyer, who personally thanked Isko for cleaning up the monument in 2019.

Meyer said she hopes that the Bonifacio Shrine in Maragondon, Cavite, site of the hero's martyrdom, will also be preserved by the local government there.

Meyer feels Mayor Isko will be the one to give justice to the role of her grandfather in the much-talked-about epic movie. "Alam kong maka-Bonifacio si Yorme at nadarama din niya ang mga ipinaglaban ni Lolo Andres noon. Sa tingin ko magaling din siya umarte. Hindi ko lang alam kung magaling siya sa action," she quipped.

Matti, who will be directing his first historical period movie said that hearing the new details of the life of Bonifacio made him more interested in doing the project.

"We're interested in bringing to light new and fascinating details about a national hero that have not been depicted in the past hoping that we could understand Bonifacio better than before," he said.

"We want to be able to tell a story about Bonifacio that hasn't been taught in schools and has never been seen in the many Bonifacio movies made in the past. And we want to make this particular Bonifacio movie relevant to the year 2021," Matti added.

He promised, "I am excited to start imagining the world that was and recreate the lives lived then. I am ready to create a place beyond what is imagined and a world that will ground all historical facts and bring out the kind of life led during that time. We are ready to work hard and make a piece of cinema that's worth experiencing without the feeling of being lectured upon."

Filming for the movie with the working title "Maypagasa" will start very soon.
