| TF-Elcac housing projects to benefit 100 ex-rebels Posted: 02 Jun 2021 03:54 AM PDT SOME 100 former communist New People's Army (NPA) terrorists in Zamboanga del Norte are set to receive housing units from the government through the Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (TF-Elcac). The houses that will be given to former NPA rebels are part of the 200-unit housing project of the government in Poblacion village, Godod, Zamboanga del Norte. The housing project is a joint effort of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Zamboanga del Norte Provincial Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (PTF-Elcac) headed by Governor Roberto Uy, Godod Municipal Task Force-ELCAC headed by Mayor Abel Matildo, National Housing Authority (NHA headed by Engineer Clemente Dayot, and other partner agencies. The remaining 100 of the 200 units will be granted to internally displaced Indigenous Peoples who belong to the Subanen and Kalibugan tribes. General Cirilito Sobejana, AFP chief-of-staff, joined the other military and government officials in the groundbreaking ceremony Monday, May 31, which signaled the start of the housing project. "This activity is a big step towards liberating our constituents from the grips of deception, treachery and violence of the Communist Terrorist Groups (CTGs). It is a strong reminder that the government will always do its best to support and assist our fellow Filipinos who lost their way, gave up on their violent struggle, and now want to live a peaceful and normal life," Sobejana said. In his speech, Sobejana formed the phrase "God-Oriented Development through Open Dialogue" (Good), which corresponds to the town's name and aspirations. "I believe that through open dialogue among community leaders, citizens and stakeholders, we shall continue to uplift the town of Godod towards lasting peace and further development," Sobejana said. He expressed his gratitude to the NHA, National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP), and the Municipal Government of Godod in making the housing project a reality. "Not only that we will provide a modest shelter for former rebels and IPs and their families, we are likewise building a safe and progressive community for them to live productively for the rest of their lives," he said. Also present in the groundbreaking ceremony were officers from the AFP General Headquarters and ground commanders from Zamboanga del Norte, to include Brigadier General Leonel Nicolas, 102nd Infantry Brigade commander, and Brigadier General Anthony Cacayuran, 54th Engineer Brigade commander. | Barmm turns over 8 ambulance units to Maguindanao Posted: 02 Jun 2021 03:54 AM PDT THE Ministry of Health in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (MOH-Barmm) turned over Wednesday, June 2, eight ambulance units to various barangay health stations (BHS) and rural health units (RHU) in different towns of Maguindanao. Dr. Bashary Latiph, MOH minister, said the acquisition of the ambulances is as "step toward the fulfillment of the mandate and vision of the ministry under the Barmm government." Latiph noted how ambulances save lives in times of emergencies. "The ambulance service will be the first point of care for the patients from home, from RHU (Regional Health Unit), from accident sites sometimes, to the referral hospitals. They are tasked to provide first aid," Latiph said. He said each ambulance unit was supplied with vital emergency medical equipment such as oxygen cylinder, heavy duty stethoscope, folding stretcher, scoop stretcher, automatic external defibrillator, nebulizer, portable suction machine, examining light, and aneroid sphygmomanometer, among others. He said two units of mobile phones were also supplied for the ambulance's driver and the town's medical officer use. He said the recipients of the ambulances are the Benolen Barangay Health Station (BHS) in Datu Odin Sinsuat, Buluan RHU, South Upi RHU, Datu Paglas RHU, Shariff Aguak RHU, Talayan RHU, Rajah Buayan RHU and Buldon RHU. The health official said the number adds up to 20 units previously turned over to the region's four other provinces -- eight units for Lanao del Sur, three units for Basilan, six for Sulu, and three units for Tawi-Tawi. He reminded the recipients that the ambulance units should only be utilized in advancing the healthcare services in their communities in cases of traumatic and emergency incidents. | 2 Abu Sayyaf bandits surrender in Sulu Posted: 02 Jun 2021 03:33 AM PDT TWO Abu Sayyaf bandits involved in the kidnapping of foreigners years ago have surrendered to the Philippine Marines troops in the province of Sulu, officials said Wednesday, June 2. Rear Admiral Toribio Adaci Jr., commander of the Naval Forces Western Mindanao (NFWM), identified the Abu Sayyaf surrenderers as Julanne Parong Musa and Akmad Hamid Edol. Adaci said the two surrendered Tuesday, June 1, to the Marine Battalion Landing Team-7 (MBLT-7) at the unit's headquarters in Karungdong, Kalingalan Caluang, Sulu. Adaci said the surrender of the two jibed with the 33rd anniversary celebration of the MBLT-7. "The celebration was highlighted by the presentation and turnover of two Abu Sayyaf surrenderers," Adaci added. Musa was recruited by Julli Ikkit in 1999 by the group of Abu Sayyaf senior leaders Radullan Sahiron and Jairulla Asbang. Reports further showed that Musa was among those involved in the 2000 kidnapping of 21 people, mostly Europeans, in Sipadan Island Diving Resort, Sabah; and the 2001 kidnapping at Dos Palmas Island Resort in Davao. Edol, on the other hand, was recruited by the group of Abu Sayyaf mid-level leader Alhabsy Misaya and was among those involved in the kidnapping of an Indonesian national sometime in 2017. Adaci said Musa and Edol turned over one M1 Garand Rifle with ammunition and one caliber .30 revolver pistol. (SunStar Zamboanga) This posting includes an audio/video/photo media file: Download Now |
