News Alert: Jan. 6 attack on Capitol to be investigated by House select committee after party-line vote

Most Republicans voted against the proposal, arguing it would establish a partisan investigation. Democrats said the select committee of House members is needed to fully investigate the violent attack after Senate Republicans blocked a proposal to create an independent panel modeled on the 9/11 Commission. The panel will be made up of 13 members of which eight will be selected by Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and five appointed by her "after consultation" with Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.).
