PMAP awards Sun Life HR chief People Manager of the Year

Posted: 20 Aug 2021 01:18 AM PDT

SUN Life Philippines' (Sun Life) Chief Human Resources Officer Hiyasmin "Yahmin" Mattison was recently honored as "People Manager of the Year" by the People Management Association of the Philippines (PMAP).

Mattison was recognized for her efforts in ensuring the welfare of over a thousand Sun Life employees nationwide amid the hindrances posed by the pandemic. Her team has been at the forefront in these extraordinary times, helping the community transition to working remotely while also staying safe and healthy.

Among the programs launched under Mattison's watch are the Employee Assistance Program, which provides adequate psychological support mechanisms; Sun Life Gigs, which allows employees from various departments to volunteer for tasks that would fast-track the company's service to clients while providing development opportunities; and Protected as One, the company's vaccination program.

All these are on top of mounting various people development programs, digitalizing people processes, and holding employee engagement activities.

"I am truly honored and grateful for this award, especially as it has been bestowed on me by PMAP, an organization that has been so much a part of my professional development and my career," says Mattison. "I share this award with my own HR team, who have worked tirelessly over their own personal struggles and have always given me reason to keep going. A leader is only as strong as the team behind her, and I am certain that I have the best team a people manager can hope for."

Sun Life Philippines CEO and Country Head Benedict Sison lauded Mattison's achievement.

"The innovations that Yahmin and her team initiated enabled Sun Life to maintain business continuity, drive organizational transformation, and help employees navigate through the crisis. In turn, the workforce was able to help the organization achieve operational resilience and continue fulfilling its obligations to its clients," he said.

"We are proud of Yahmin and congratulate her on this wonderful milestone," he added. (Sponsored Content)

2 NPA rebels surrender in Claveria, Misamis Oriental

Posted: 19 Aug 2021 06:26 AM PDT

TWO communist New People's Army (NPA) rebels have surrendered to government authorities at Barangay Poblacion, Claveria in Misamis Oriental earlier this week.

According to the 58th Infantry "Dimalulupig" Battalion (58IB), the two, identified as alias Ong and alias Talin voluntarily surrendered on August 16.

Alias Ong is a vice squad leader of Platoon Ryan, Sub-Regional Committee 1 (SRC 1), North Central Mindanao Regional Command (NCMRC) and alias Talin is a regular member of the said platoon.

The troops retrieved the firearms cache buried at the hinterlands of Barangay San Luis in Claveria. They recovered ten high-powered firearms, namely eight AK47 rifles, one M653 rifle, and one M16 rifle.

"The constant reduction of NPA forces is an indication of the effectiveness of the many peace initiatives and efforts by the government and the troops in ending insurgency," 58IB Commanding Officer Ricky Canatoy said.

"Their numbers are dwindling, and they are under pressure because of the loss of their forces and huge bases. Furthermore, their surrender shows that they have had enough of the NPA's false ideology. This also implies that they have switched their faith and support from the CTG to the government," he added.

Canatoy encouraged the NPA rebels to surrender, saying that they will be working closely with the National Government to help surrenderers "build a new, peaceful future."

"Indeed, nothing is impossible with the Whole of Nation Approach, which reflects the oneness of all stakeholders. Let us continue to fight together to put an end to the CPP-NPA-NDF's 53-year reign of terror," Canatoy added.

Rebels who wanted to surrender will be debriefed and provided with government aid through the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integrated Program (EClip), which will assist them in reuniting with their families.
