| 1 NPA member dead; 3 firearms seized in Misamis Oriental clash Posted: 30 Aug 2021 04:15 AM PDT A MEMBER of the New People's Army (NPA) was killed in a clash in Gingoog City, Misamis Oriental on Saturday afternoon, August 28. The 4th Infantry (Diamond) Division (4ID) reported that two M16 rifles and one M14 rifle were recovered after a 25-minute firefight between the rebels and the Army's 42nd Division Reconnaissance Company (DRC) under the operational control of 58th Infantry (Dimalulupig) Battalion (5IB) at the vicinity of Talupa, So. Dumagook, Barangay Lawaan in Gingoog City, Misamis Oriental around 5:10 p.m. The troops clashed against more or less 10 rebels who were believed to be armed elements of Sub Regional Sentro De Gravidad (SRSDG) MTJ Eagles of the North Central Mindanao Regional Command (NCMRC). No casualties were recorded on the military side. The troops are still conducting pursuit operations against the fleeing rebels. Major General Romeo Brawner Jr., commander of 4ID, said the encounter and the surrender of NPA rebels last week manifest the tactical proficiency of their troops. "These accomplishments are results of careful planning and strategy born out from good intelligence, and the flawless execution of competent and capable leaders and soldiers. | 310 new Covid-19 cases in Oro over the weekend Posted: 30 Aug 2021 04:14 AM PDT THE City Health Office of Cagayan de Oro has noted a continuous rise in the number of coronavirus disease (Covid-19) cases, as the city logged 310 infections over the weekend. The cumulative confirmed cases in the city have reached 16,991. The City Health Office said that among the 310 cases, one was a returning overseas Filipino worker (ROF) and 309 were local transmissions. Of the 309 new cases, 202 were local index cases, 60 were close contacts of previously confirmed cases, 35 were local authorized persons outside residence (Apors), three were Apors with link, and nine were mortalities. The active cases in Cagayan de Oro have reached 3,362, of which 942 were admitted to the Northern Mindanao Medical Center and other hospitals in the city, 2,416 were outpatients, and four were ROFs/LSIs. Cagayan de Oro also registered 193 new coronavirus-positive persons who were tagged as "recovered," bringing the total number of recoveries in Cagayan de Oro to 12,903. The number of Covid-19 deaths in the city was now at 726. Meanwhile, the total number of vaccinees who tested positive for the virus in Cagayan de Oro has reached 3,411, the City Health Office reported. It added that of the 3,411 vaccinees, 2,130 were vaccinated with Sinovac vaccine, 656 were vaccinated with AstraZeneca, 235 with Pfizer, 197 were vaccinated with Sputnik V, 184 were vaccinated with Janssen, five were vaccinated with Moderna, and four were vaccinated with Sinopharm. Of the 2,130 Covid-positive Sinovac vaccinees, 1,670 individuals were experiencing mild symptoms, 321 were asymptomatic, 132 had moderate symptoms and seven were severe cases. Among the 656 AstraZeneca vaccinees, 487 individuals had mild symptoms, 122 were asymptomatic, 44 had moderate symptoms and three were severe cases.
