Hardship, longingness for family push young NPA parent to surrender Posted: 30 Sep 2021 09:42 AM PDT A 28-YEAR-OLD alleged member of the New People's Army (NPA) voluntarily surrendered to the authorities in Carigara, Leyte, after being separated from her family and endured hardship in the mountains, the regional police command in Eastern Visayas said Thursday, September 30, 2021. The former rebel was identified as Cindy, with a live-in partner, and former education, medical, finance, liaison, intelligence officer, and vice commanding officer of Platoon Caloy Squad. According to the authorities, the former rebel "longed to be with her family and three children again." "She wishes to send them to school and practically to live a simple and normal life," the regional police command said in the report. The surrender was made possible through a series of negotiations that started as early as September 10, 2021, by the Regional Mobile Force Battalion-8, Philippine Army's 802nd Maneuver Company, Leyte Provincial Intelligence Unit, 2nd Provincial Mobile Force Company, and the Leyte Police Provincial Office. The former rebel turned in one caliber 9mm pistol with defaced markings and one magazine assembly loaded with eight live ammunition for the same caliber. Authorities said they had facilitated her application to avail the national government's Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program. Leyte pastor nabbed over rape, child abuse charges Posted: 29 Sep 2021 11:53 PM PDT JOINT police operatives arrested a 27-year-old pastor for two counts of rape and child abuse charges in Barangay San Isidro, Mahaplag, Leyte Wednesday, September 29, 2021. The accused was identified as Wennie "Pastor Wennie" Oghayon, single, and a resident of the said barangay. Authorities identified him as Top 1 most wanted person in Leyte province. Honorable Carlos Arguelles, presiding judge of Regional Trial Court-Branch 14 in Baybay City, did not recommend bail to the accused for the rape case, while P200,000 bail bond was recommended for each case of violation of Section 5 (b) of Republic Act 7610, otherwise known as "An Act Providing For Stronger Deterrence And Special Protection Against Child Abuse, Exploitation And Discrimination, And For Other Purposes." The operating units were the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-Northern Leyte Provincial Field Office (CIDG-NLPFU) led by Major Duane Francis Ducducan, Regional Intelligence Unit-Eastern Visayas led by Major Delfin Tan, Northern Leyte Maritime Police led by Major Glenn Michael Amoyen, Northern Leyte PHPT led by Master Sergeant Amancio Diola Jr., Leyte Provincial Intelligence Unit led by Lieutenant Colonel Dinvir Revita, and Mahaplag Municipal Police Station headed by Captain Rodolfo Renomeron. Police brought the accused to the station for documentation and was subsequently brought to CIDG-NLPFU for proper disposition prior to turn-over to the court of origin.
