| Anti-drug sting nets 1, over P326,000 shabu seized Posted: 01 Dec 2021 07:39 AM PST ONE person was arrested while over P320,000 worth of illegal drugs were seized in an anti-drug operation in Zamboanga City early Wednesday, December 1, 2021. Police Major Albin Cabayacruz, Zamboanga City Police Office's (ZCPO) Station 7 chief, identified the arrested suspect as Aziz Alamia, 44, a resident of Villa Sta. Maria in Sta. Maria village, this city. Cabayacruz said Alamia was arrested by the operatives of the Station Drug Enforcement Team (SDET) in an anti-drug operation around 3:15 a.m. Wednesday, December 1, at the bypass road in Tumaga village, Zamboanga City. Cabayacruz said recovered from Alamia were some 48 grams of suspected shabu worth P326,400, a belt bag, and P500 marked money. He said they launched the anti-drug operation against Alamia following a series of surveillance on the illegal activity of the suspect. He added that charges for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 against the suspect, who was detained. | 6 NPA rebels surrender in Sarangani Posted: 01 Dec 2021 07:38 AM PST SIX members of the New People's Army (NPA) have surrendered to government authorities Tuesday, November 30, 2021, in the province of Sarangani, officials announced. Major General Alfredo Rosario, Jr., commander of the Western Mindanao Command (Westmicom), said the six NPA surrenderers were members of the Militia ng Bayan under Central Platoon Musa, of the NPA's Far South Mindanao Region (FSMR). Rosario did not identify the NPA surrenderers for security reasons except in saying they are all residents of Sitio Kapanal in Gasi village, Kiamba, Sarangani. "The FSMR operates mainly in the provinces of Cotabato and Saranggani," Rosario added. He said the NPA surrenderers handed over one shotgun with three rounds of live ammunition, one 5.56-millimeter pistol with two rounds of live ammunition, and two .38-caliber revolvers with three rounds of live ammunition. The surrenderers have undergone custodial debriefing. They were then presented to Kiamba Mayor Danny Martinez and other stakeholders for their subsequent enrollment in the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-Clip). The E-Clip is a government program that aims to help the rebel members of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People's Army-National Democratic Front (CPP-NPA-NDF) and Militia ng Bayan to restore their allegiance to the Philippine government. Major General Juvymax Uy, Joint Task Force (JTF)-Central commander, attributed this accomplishment to the collaborative efforts of the 38th Infantry Battalion, 2nd Sarangani Provincial Mobile Force Company, Kiamba police, Police Maritime Group-Kiamba substation, and the intelligence units. Since January, a total of 145 members and supporters of the NPA already surrendered to the JTF-Central most of whom already received their reintegration packages. | Barmm gives food supplies to inoculated individuals Posted: 01 Dec 2021 07:36 AM PST THE Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (Barmm), through the Rapid Emergency Action on Disaster Incidence (READi), has distributed some 4,250 food packs in 25 municipalities of Maguindanao. The Ministry of Social Services and Development in Batmm (MSSD-Barmm) said in a statement Wednesday, December 1, that the distribution of food packs was aimed to encourage the residents to get vaccinated. The distribution of food packs through the Rural Health Units (RHUs) was dubbed as "Ayuda para sa Bakuna." The MSSD said 2,400 of the 4,250 total food packs were sent to the RHUs in the 16 municipalities of Maguindanao on Monday, November 29, the first day of the "Bayanihan, Bakunahan sa Bangsamoro". The remaining 1,850 food packs were distributed by the Barmm-READi on Tuesday, November 30, the second day of the three-day National Vaccination Days to nine other towns of Maguindanao. The MSSD-Barmm also provided relief distributions to indigent communities who participated in the vaccination drive. The Ministry of Health in Barmm targets to inoculate almost one million individuals during the three-day National Vaccination Days. Barmm Chief Minister Ahod Ebrahim said this is part of the national government's broader initiative to vaccinate approximately 15 million people in the country. | 5 Abu Sayyafs surrender in Basilan, Sulu Posted: 30 Nov 2021 01:46 AM PST FIVE more members of the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) have surrendered as the Western Mindanao Command (Westmincom) continued to intensify its security operations in the provinces of Basilan and Sulu. Major General Alfredo Rosario Jr., commander of Westmincom, announced Tuesday, November 30, that the surrender of the five brought the total number of Abu Sayyaf surrenderers in the two provinces to 206 since January this year. "The Westmincom, through its Joint Task Forces, is tightening its security operations, that is why most of the members and supporters of the threat groups (ASG) opted to return to the folds of the law," Rosario said. "I hope that the remaining members will also come to their senses soon," Rosario added. One of the five, identified only as Abu Bullet, 22, surrendered Saturday, November 27, in the province of Basilan. Bullet, a resident of Tipo-Tipo municipality, is a follower of ASG leader Nurhasan Jamiri. Bullet handed over his M-16 rifle to the troops of the 18th Infantry Battalion (IB) and was presented to Lieutenant Colonel Egverr Jonathan Abutin, the 18IB commander, during the Community Support Program (CSP) Grand Pulong-Pulong in Limbu Upas village, Tipo-Tipo. Bullet will be enrolled in the Program Against Violent Extremism (Pave) for Peace of the Municipal Government of Tipo-Tipo. "The strength and manpower of the ASG have dwindled. We sustain our efforts to totally eradicate the group and bring lasting peace in the province of Basilan," said Brigadier General Domingo Gobway, Joint Task Force (JTF)-Basilan commander. Meanwhile, the other four ASG members surrendered Thursday, November 25, to the Marine Battalion Landing Team-7 (MBLT-7) of the Naval Task Group Sulu and 4th Marine Brigade (4MBde) in Panamao, Sulu. Lieutenant Colonel Eduard Olaso, MBLT-7 commander, did not release the identities of the four ASG surrenderers for security reasons. The surrenderers turned over two M16A1 rifles, one M1 Garand rifle, one caliber .45 pistol, and assorted ammunition. The four have undergone custodial debriefing at the MBLT-7 headquarters in Seit Lake village, Panamao, Sulu, after which they were presented to Colonel Hernanie Songano, 4MBde commander, and subsequently turned over to Panamao Mayor Al-Fraizer Abdurajak for proper disposition. Major William Gonzales of JTF-Sulu enjoined the remaining members of the ASG to peacefully surrender to government authorities. "We welcome the surrender of the ASG members and acknowledge the support of the local government and the people in our efforts to defeat the enemies of the state," Gonzales said. Of the total 206 ASG surrenderers since January this year, 165 yielded in Sulu, 37 in Basilan, three in Tawi-Tawi, and one in Zamboanga City. | Barmm gives farm inputs to 22 cooperatives Posted: 30 Nov 2021 01:45 AM PST THE Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Agrarian Reform in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (Mafar-Barmm) has distributed organic inputs and chemical supplies to 22 farmer cooperatives in line with the celebration of the 7th Organic Agriculture Month. The recipients of the farm inputs distributed Friday, November 26, were from Cotabato City and the provinces of Maguindanao, Lanao del Sur as well as Special Geographic Areas (SGA) of Barmm. Tong Abas, Mafar chief of operation for agriculture services, said Tuesday, November 30, that the agricultural inputs, amounting to P846,374 under the 2021 General Appropriations Act for Bangsamoro (Gaab), a regular program funds of Mafar, included organic fertilizers, sweet potato cuttings, ginger, molasses and foliar fertilizers. Abas said the organic inputs were distributed to the farmer cooperatives as part of Mafar's strategy to promote and encourage organic farming in the region. "We want our farmers to practice organic farming in their respective areas using high value crops, especially during this time of pandemic because they could earn income from it," Abas said. "In fact, several farmers saved their livelihood using organic farming as their alternative or main source of income, such as planting upland rice, vegetables, and spices, among others during this time of difficulties," he added. Nora Rebote of Talapas Integrated Organic Farmers Association based in Datu Montawal, Maguindanao, and Malony Tulawi of Greenland Multi-Purpose Cooperative in Upi, Maguindanao expressed their gratitude to Mafar-Barmm for their continuous support, especially during this Covid-19 pandemic. The celebration 7th Organic Agriculture Month is anchored on the theme "Organikong Pagsasaka, Sagot sa Pandemiya." The celebration is an annual activity intended to promote the practice of organic agriculture nationwide, as a farm system, being considered an effective tool for development, environmental conservation, and health protection of farmers, consumers and the general public.
