If Amazon is committed to correcting past social injustices and the unfair treatment toward lower social economic classes due to the War on Drugs, why not get your own house in order, now? Many have written about how Amazon is a new form of modern slavery. Why not pay a livable wage, as opposed to the state's minimum wage or as close to it as Amazon can legally pay? Why not give employees options other than the overnight shift, so they don't have to choose between taking care of their kids and family and working at an Amazon shipping facility? Why not give enough bathroom breaks so the internet isn't littered with Amazon "pee bottle" pictures? Why fight tooth-and-nail against union organization for lower paid workers at every station in America? You can't go back in history to correct past injustices, but you can correct your current practices, so we don't look back in 50 years and say we need to correct the high-pressure, low-pay environment Amazon created during the ecommerce boom. | [New post] On John Sinclair Posted: 27 Feb 2022 03:47 AM PST whisperinggums posted: " Who is John Sinclair, you are probably asking? Those of you who read my last post, Shy love smiles and acid drops: Letters from a difficult marriage, may remember that he was the husband of the marriage in question, and father of the author, Jane Sin" Who is John Sinclair, you are probably asking? Those of you who read my last post, Shy love smiles and acid drops: Letters from a difficult marriage, may remember that he was the husband of the marriage in question, and father of the author, Jane Sinclair. However, as I briefly mentioned in that post, John Sinclair was also a music critic in Melbourne from 1947 to 1985. As a keen concert-goer I was intrigued, and so did a little digging. I found an interesting man with a passion for some things that might interest us here. This is to say, he had some definite ideas about criticism, and about supporting Australian music and culture. Most of what I'm sharing here came from a 1998 article by Adrian Thomas called '"Beware of snakes, spiders and Sinclair": John Sinclair (1919-1991), Music critic for the Melbourne Herald: The early years'. If you are interested, read the article, but regarding Sinclair's background, Thomas tells us that he started out as an artist. In fact, in the early 1940s, newspaper owner Sir Keith Murdoch gave him a stipend over other prominent artists like Sidney Nolan (who was a good friend of Sinclair's). It was during this time that Sinclair became involved with the Heidi artistic community. Thomas doesn't know why he didn't continue with art, but says that his association with this circle and "their artistic beliefs" informed his career as a music critic. He was determined "to encourage a vibrant and enduring musical culture in Melbourne" like that artistic one. He also advocated for contemporary music and championed "those Australian composers and performers whose talents he deemed worthy of support." In 1947, he was employed as music critic by Murdoch's Herald, and there he stayed. The function of the music critic Sinclair apparently wrote quite a bit about criticism. Re music critics, he argued that, in addition to having the skills necessary to determining "the merit or otherwise of a performance, it is equally important that he [this was 1947] should possess the ability to translate his musical experience into terms accessible to the layman". He saw criticism as being still "relatively undeveloped in Australia", and was keen to be part of its development. He was known, says Thomas, for writing "direct and uncompromising reviews" which "shook the musical establishment". As is the way of these things, people focused on the negative, but Thomas says that "quality performances were always acknowledged". I couldn't resist checking, and I found many positive ones in Trove, alongside some critical ones. For example, he wrote in 1952 of a young Australian organist, John Eggington, just returned from England, that "certainly, Melbourne organ lovers would find it difficult to recall many occasions on which the playing was as clear, expressive and brilliant as Mr Eggington's was today". His negative reviews, thought, were not gentle. In 1947 he wrote on a recital by Viennese-born Australian pianist Paul Schramm, saying he "sat at the piano, dispassionate and efficient — something of a musical pharmacist dispensing a potion with deft and skilful fingers. He is a natural musician, and a fluid and sensitive interpreter." However, while it was good playing and musical, it was also "always facile". Returning to the pharmacist analogy, Sinclair concludes that Mr Schramm, however, appears more concerned with the effect of his dispensations on his listeners than a personal search in the deeper realms of the composer's meaning. All told, I think Mr Schramm and I were among the few people who weren't really enjoying themselves last night. The negative ones caused controversy, which was good for the newspaper business, but even Murdoch himself, writes Thomas, stepped in to give Sinclair his view of criticism. Anyhow, Sinclair said a few more things about criticism that are more broadly applicable, and appealed to me, such as that it is the critic's job to know his subject, to set his standards and then to hold to them so that any thoughtful reader, on the evidence of a series of criticisms, can determine where he and the critic stand in relation to music. Only then can the reader form a worth-while opinion of the music on which the critic has reported. (1952) I like this point about critics having clear criteria/standards that we can get to know. He also noted in 1952 that "the critic stands between the musician and the public and contributes to the understanding of music by measuring the individual work or performance against the widest possible background". And in 1973, in a letter to the Australian Council of the Arts, he said, among other things, that: I have always believed that my responsibility was to the cause of music in the widest sense [my emph.]; that I had a responsibility not only to make reputable judgements about performance but to understand the many and complex factors that determine the quality of music making in the community. I like his views on the practice and role of criticism. What about you? Supporting contemporary music and musicians Thomas discusses Sinclair's role in improving what was Australia's "immature musical culture", in terms of concert-going behaviour, but my main interest is Sinclair's ongoing concern with public's "indifferent attitudes towards Australian composers and performers". He laid much of this at the feet of the ABC. It was Australia's main concert organiser and it focused on international performers. He wrote in 1952 that "in the long run it is the quality of indigenous musical activity, and not the playing of visitors that determines the worth of a year". The public, he saw, was being trained to prefer the international celebrity. Even worse, the concerts these and local orchestras performed primarily comprised standards from the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. He argued that "the ABC has an obligation to foster public taste and to provide conditions in which Australian musicians can develop and mature". He worked hard to promote contemporary music and local composers. I found a 1951 review of a concert conducted by Eugene Goossens in which he praises Goossens for "continuing his very tangible services to Australian composers" by conducting the first Melbourne performance of Margaret Sutherland's tone poem "Haunted Hills". Similarly, a review of a 1952 Victorian Symphony Orchestra concert starts: Much more contemporary music than usual and an excellent standard of performance distinguished last night's concert by the Victorian Symphony Orchestra under Juan Jose Castro in the Melbourne Town Hall. Thomas tells us "by the time the ABC tried to change the culture by appointing composer and contemporary music advocate Juan Castro as resident conductor in 1952, a conservative attitude to music was firmly entrenched in audiences". Converting audiences to contemporary music has always been a tough ask, but it, like all contemporary artistic endeavour, must be supported if culture is to remain fresh. I have enjoyed getting to know John Sinclair a little more, and greatly enjoyed reading his writing in the Herald. We don't hear much about his work in Shy love smiles, but I'll close on something from a letter he wrote to Jeannie in 1961 about a concert at Glyndebourne. The work was modern, "Elegy for young lovers" by Henze, with words by Auden. He loved it: my hair stood on end as the symbols [sic] clashed on and on. You probably read about it. Ah well. Also the audience was more serious and highbrow and sympathetic. Obviously the society ladies were frightened. I'll leave it there. Adrian Thomas '"Beware of snakes, spiders and Sinclair": John Sinclair (1919-1991), Music critic for the Melbourne Herald: The early years' in Context: Journal of Music Research, No. 15/16, 1998: 79-90 |

Posted: 27 Feb 2022 02:25 AM PST Kapuso teleserye First Lady continues to earn high ratings as it entered its second airing week! It premiered on GMA Network on February 14 with a 14.4% rating, second in the rating chart. It then ended its pilot week with 13.7%, maintaining its ranking. It was able to recover its rating the following week. On February 21, the series earned a 14.5% rating, a point higher than its pilot rating. The following day, it improved its rating to 14.6%, and it remained in the second spot on the leaderboards. On February 23, it was still in the number two spot, but its rating dropped slightly to 14.2%. Despite this, it established a 3.5% gap against its rival FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano. In the second week, Melody (Sanya Lopez) continued to face criticisms as she performs her duties as the first lady. She was slammed by Senator Alegra who underestimated her capabilities, pointing out that she knows nothing as a former nanny. Meanwhile, Atty. Ingrid Domingo (Alice Dixson), the ex-girlfriend of President Glenn Acosta (Gabby Concepcion) gave Melody a piece of advice on how to deal with her political adversaries. Acosta was then surprised when he discovered that Melody and Ingrid had bonded with each other. Unfortunately, Ingrid has this hidden agenda to destroy Acosta and Melody. She collaborated with a journalist to gather information about Acosta’s political power. Ingrid is up for revenge against her former lover and his first lady. Posted: 27 Feb 2022 02:19 AM PST Vic Sotto shared her daughter wants a sibling, but there's a hindrance to her daughter's request. During BossMax3’s digital presscon on February 20, Sotto stated he wanted her daughter's wish to come true. "Tuwing magdadasal sa gabi, parating, 'Papa Jesus, thank You for my dad, thank You for my mom. Can You please give me a baby sister or baby brother?' Parating katabi namin [si Tali] matulog eh!" he said laughingly. Sotto revealed he has been making more efforts both physically and mentally to take care of himself. "Hindi pwedeng tatamad-tamad ka dahil may kakulitan 'yung bata. "Kailangan makipagtaguan ka, habulan, lahat 'yon. Kailangan may energy ka hindi lang sa pisikal [kundi] pati sa salita," he added. "Talo 'ata si Pauleen nito sa kadaldalan." On January 29, via Instagram, Pauleen Luna stated that she is praying to have another child with her husband Sotto. "Forever you and me (still praying for a baby sis/bro for Tali bachuchi tho!)," she captioned. In February 2022, Sotto officially endorsed Boss Max 3, a dietary supplement and coffee made from Mangosteen Xanthone, a locally known fruit that offers a long list of health benefits. "Kailangan nating maging mabusisi sa ating mga iniinom na vitamins and supplements to ensure that we are equipped with the right amount of nutrients and helps us boost our immune system na makakatulong to juggle our work and family life. I don’t like to even, you know, spend my energy and my time thinking about the people who left. “Because you know, they’ve decided to move on and do something else. I’d like to pour my energy, and my focus, and my love, to the ones who are here. Kasi yun naman ang importante eh, yung kasama mo ngayon sa hirap at sa ginhawa,” he said. ABS-CBN’s shut down in 2020 has resulted in an exodus of talents and staff, making Dyogi realize that it is far more important to prioritize those who have stayed. “The loss of the franchise gave us a lot of insight into what’s more important in our lives and who are the people who are also important, and who value that relationship. So ‘yon muna ang tinitignan ko,” stressed the Star Magic head. However, he does not blame those who have left considering that the shutdown happened during the pandemic. “I would always respect the decision of every individual. Kasi hindi ko naman hawak yung buhay nang bawat isa sa kanila. I mean they made decisions based on their life circumstances. “Hindi na natin make-kwestyon ‘yon, kung may pangangailangan sila or meron silang plano sa buhay nila na sa tingin nila hindi maibibigay ng ABS and Star Magic, I mean, that’s there option,” expressed Dyogi. Given the nature of the industry, the Kapamilya executive does not close the door for them. “In the future, I can’t say. Sino ba tayo? We don’t know what the future—what’s there—maliit ang naman ang industriya nang entertainment. So hindi ako magsasalita nang tapos na it’s for good, na never na ulit magkakasama.” Dyogi added, “But for now, we would like ABS and Star Magic to focus on the artists who decided to stay and be with us, and journey with us, and commit to being part of this very interesting and very challenging—pero alam natin na pagkatapos nito… I think we’ve gone through the worse already. Paahon na kami at exciting times are just ahead.” Artists Jolina Magdangal, Shaina Magdayao, Zanjoe Marudo, Gerald Anderson, Jake Cuenca, Erich Gonzalez, Ronnie Alonte, and Loisa Andalio signed their respective contract renewals with Star Magic. Singers Gary Valenciano and Regine Velasquez-Alcasid also partook in the event. It was her first school in Angat, Bulacan that gave her such traumatizing experience, she shared during the virtual media conference of her upcoming series The Seniors on Tuesday, February 22 . “To be honest, yung high school talaga ang isa sa mga pinakamagulong parte ng buhay mo. Kasi doon ko na-experience na ma-bully ako.” Cruz was bullied due to her career as an artist. Her height was also one of the factors why bullies picked on her. “Siguro kung magtatanong kayo kung ano po yung mga na-bully sa akin is isa is maliit ako. Tapos laos na artista daw ako kapag wala akong projects sinasabihan ako nang mga ganoon.” There were also rumors against her that she used to bribe teachers to get good grades. “Tapos sinasabihan nila ako na nakakapasa lang ako ng grades kasi daw binabayaran ko daw ang mga teachers kahit na lagi akong absent,” she continued. It even reached a point where former classmates have harassed her for no reason. “Tapos nagkaroon one time na I’m just walking sa hallway namin tapos bigla akong kinorner ng mga kaklase ko dito. Tapos bigla nila akong sinampal out of nowhere, nang walang reason talaga.” Fortunately, she transferred to a school in Quezon City and met her true friends who did not care about her celebrity status. “As in sila nagturo paano magmura, mga gano’n. Until now nagtutulungan kami sa business. Hanggang ngayon nagtutulungan kami. So yeah, masaya talaga ang senior year. Kailangang i-cherish nang lahat.” Cruz was able to enjoy her senior year life because of her newfound friends, revealing that she broke the rules just to be with them. “Sa senior year ko po kasi, kahit na-home study ako, ang rules kasi sa school namin dapat 2-3 days lang kami pumapasok to take exams. Pero ako, in-everyday ko kasi na-meet ko ang mga friends ko na totoo. Until now, even after graduating we’re still friends. Ang pinaka-blessing is na-meet ko sila during my senior year,” she added. By doing The Seniors, she learned the reality that not everyone experiences similar struggles in life. “Yung lesson sa mismong series is exactly what the creative said. Lahat tayo merong pinagdadaanan. P’wedeng sa kanya mababaw lang ang tingin mo pero para do’n sa kaibigan mo na ‘yon sobrang big deal iyon.” The actress is also hoping to spread mental health awareness and educate Filipinos to accept that it is normal to feel depressed and down. “I think yun ang gusto ko i-advocate na hindi ‘yon nabibigyan ng pansin. Sa Korea, malaki ang support sa mental health. Even sa ibang bansa they always look for psychiatrist for support system, ang dami-daming support group sa ibang bansa. “And then dito ‘pag sinabing gan’yan ka baliw ka na agad, nag-iinarte ka lang. So siguro ‘yon ang pinaka-gusto kong i-take serious nating mga Pilipino yung mental health awareness natin. “Kasi hindi mo p’wedeng sabihin sa isang tao whose depressed na you feel the same way, or you understand it. Kasi mas lalo lang nagkakaroon nang trigger button.” The Seniors also stars Julia Barretto, Awra Briguela, and newcomer Andrea Babierra. It will premiere on Vivamax starting March 20. She was among the artists who had their contracts renewed in the recently held Kapamilya Strong. Magdangal explained that Kapamilyas should stay with the Network “through thick and thin.” Magdangal also wanted to encourage colleagues to stay though she respects it if they prefer to leave. “Yung mga gusto bumitaw, try nating hilahin pero kung ayaw na, okay lang. Basta try mo pa rin yakapin yung iba. Yun ang pinaka-nanaig sa akin.” Magdangal, who had 33 fruitful years in showbusiness, considered the 1992 youth-oriented program Ang TV as the highlight of her career. It was also the show that marked her debut as an artist. “Sa Ang TV kasi kahit sabihin na nating ’90s ito,” she recalled. \”Kasi talent center pa noong time na ‘yon eh. ‘Di ba? Naalala natin ‘yan? Takbo-takbo lang tayo diyan.” She also personally considered the Network’s never-changing vibe to be the height of her showbiz journey. “Pero para sa akin, the fact na nag-talent center ako, tapos nag-ibang bahay muna for a while, tapos pagbalik ko parang hindi ako nawala, yun ang highlight na rin para sa akin. “Kasi hindi lahat nabibigyan nang ganoong pagkakataon at privilege para magkaroon nang ganoong welcome. Kumbaga yung akap ng isang pamilya, naramdaman ko pa rin after all these yeras na hindi kami nagkita, parang ganoon,” she said. Magdangal also advised the younger generation who were eager to follow in their footsteps to always “keep their feet on the ground.” “Kasi kapag yun ang hindi nawala, kahit saan sila mapunta, talagang lilipad sila ng todo. Kasi yun ang pinaka-core nila eh, yung values na dapat nakatago lang sa kanila. Ibig sabihin lang kasi no’n hindi sila yayabang. So hangga’t nand’yan ang pagkakakumbaba hindi lang sa kapwa artista kundi sa mga katrabaho mo na nagpupuyat ng script, I guess malayung-malayo ang mararating mo.” Also present in the contract signing were seasoned singers Gary Valenciano and Regine Velasquez-Alcasid. Star Magic talents Shaina Magdayao, Zanjoe Marudo, Gerald Anderson, Jake Cuenca, Erich Gonzalez, Ronnie Alonte, and Loisa Andalio signed their respective contract renewals as well. | DailyPedia Posted: 27 Feb 2022 02:19 AM PST | Aika Robredo References Marvel TV Show as She Shares Video of her Father Wearing Pink Posted: 27 Feb 2022 12:43 AM PST A daughter of presidential bet and Vice President Leni Robredo referenced a quote from a Marvel television show as she shared a 2007 footage showing her late father, Interior Secretary Jesse Robredo, wearing a pink shirt while walking alongside her mother during the Sumilao farmers in Naga. On her Twitter account, Aika Robredo shared a video of the Sumilao march and accompanied it with the caption "Mama @lenirobredo with her OG kakampink in pink. “What is grief, if not love persevering," referring to the untimely passing of her father. The quote was uttered by Vision in the Marvel television show "Wandavision," as Vision was recreated by Wanda Maximoff after the latter died at the hands of villain Thanos in the movie, "Avengers: Infinity War." Aika mentioned "OG" or "original" to refer to her father wearing a pink shirt in 2007 when he and Leni welcomed the Sumilao farmers. In the video clip shared by Aika, the Robredo couple welcomed the Sumilao farmers in Naga City when they marched from Mindanao to Manila to demand for their ancestral land that was being claimed by a big corporation. Jesse was then the Mayor of Naga City while Leni helped the Sumilao farmers won their case while working as volunteer lawyer of the non-government organization Sentro ng Alternatibong Lingap Panligal (Saligan). When Robredo ran for vice president in 2016, the farmers showed their support by reenacting their march from Sumilao to Quezon City. Robredo reenacted the said march when she visited Sumilao, Bukidnon on Wednesday (February 23) and signed a covenant with the farmers. During their meeting, the farmers reiterated their support for Robredo's presidential bid, saying she is the right person to lead the country. He partnered up with fellow actor Ken Chan to open Cafe Claus, the first Christmas-themed restaurant in the country located on Tandang Sora, Quezon City. Kolton said it took around three years of planning before they decided to open. The vision for the business is a "home away from home." "No matter what happens outside, no matter how down you feel, whenever you come through our doors, you can be comforted by the things that remind you of home." he said during an interview, a month after the establishment opened. Customers are greeted with Christmas lights. On one side is a fully decorated Christmas tree. Just behind are books on a shelf that are also for sale. A specialty of Cafe Claus is Roasting on an Open Fire—a roasted chicken recipe Kolton learned from his grandmother. “When customers taste that, they’re tasting not just a roasted chicken, they’re tasting history, and love, and memories. Chan and Kolton knew they were taking a risk by starting something unique but that’s exactly what they wanted. “You’re able to do something different. You’re able to impact the community in a fresh and new way while introducing them to something that they love and hold dear.” One of the main goals of the restaurant is to promote the importance of family among its customers. “Christmas attacks the heart. It’s deeply cherished. It’s us essentially doing it in honor of the family. This is a family first environment,” he said. “This is my love letter for my family.” Kolton also said that if everything goes smoothly, six more branches will have been opened when 2022 concludes which includes a hotel in Antipolo and a farm concept in Tagaytay. The year is poised to get a lot busier than usual for Filipino actors on the global entertainment scene, as they are joining up-and-coming local stars in various international projects. Early in January this year, a Variety report confirmed Filipino actors Angel Locsin and Edu Manzano will star in the Filipino adaptation of the hit French comedy-drama series, Call My Agent, from France. Critically-acclaimed director, Erik Matti (On The Job, Honor Thy Father) has been reportedly tapped to helm the project, which is just one of many TV adaptations of the show in various Asian countries. The show is set to stream online via HBO Go. The Filipino remake is slated to kick off production in April or May. Also in January, the Diamond Star, Maricel Soriano, was announced as a part of the cast of the upcoming American romcom, Re-Live: A Tale of An American Island Cheerleader, which is set to be led by Fil-American stars, Rachel Leyco and International Emmy-nominated Rain Valdez. The said series follows transgender actress, Rowena (Valdez) who went home to her Guam hometown to attend to her ailing mother, Thelma, which will be played by Soriano. Aside from her participation in the upcoming crime series, Concepcion, which tells about an autocratic Filipino family in Los Angeles, the Megastar Sharon Cuneta is also set to star in the Hollywood adaptation of the best-selling and award-winning novel, The Mango Bride, by Marivi Soliven. The novel tells the story of two Filipinas, Beverly and Amparo, who migrated to California, only to confront hidden truths. Babae At Baril director, Martin Edralin, is set to direct the film, while the adapted screenplay will be written by Rae Red. Production collaborations with foreign producers are also set to bring Filipino stories to global platforms. From last year to early this year, ABS-CBN International has announced several international projects underway, including the modern reimagination of the Filipino crime classic, Sa Aking mga Kamay, originally starred by Christopher de Leon and Aga Mulach. Internationally acclaimed Kapamilya actor, Arjo Atayde, takes on the former role of Mulach. Titled The Rebirth of the Cattleya Killer–the series will follow the 'Cattleya Killer', who murders infidel married women. Other international productions underway include the Taiwanese-Filipino boys love series 'Spicy Adobo and Stinky Tofu', and the prison drama Sellblock, all under ABS-CBN International and its international partners. Ferdinand Topacio accuses a reporter assigned to cover VP Leni Robredo’s sorties of being biased, Rappler defends the beat reporter Posted: 26 Feb 2022 01:33 PM PST The controversial lawyer drew flak online for accusing a Rappler reporter of being biased over her Robredo tweets. Atty. Ferdinand Topacio is back under the spotlight, only this time, he's not serving as a legal counsel to or defending a former-President charged with plunder or graft cases. He's not making noise again allegedly engaging in an illicit affair with one of his celebrity clients. Topacio recently accused Rappler reporter, Mara Cepeda, of being biased, after noticing that the reporter's tweets were largely about Vice President and Presidentiable Leni Robredo. In a tweet, the lawyer said, "Grabe, hindi talaga biased si @maracepeda .Hindi sunod-sunod ang tweets niya tungkol kay Leni. IPAGBUNYI!" The sarcastic tweet also included attached screenshots of Cepeda's tweets and retweets about Robredo. However, Rappler, immediately disproved Topacio's claim by casually informing the lawyer that Cepeda is assigned to cover Robredo's campaign, and thus, there is nothing irregular in the reporter tweeting mostly about Robredo. "Mr. Topacio, Mara Cepeda is a beat reporter covering the Robredo campaign. Of course, she will tweet about the subject assigned to her, not someone else." Rappler's reply reads. Netizens are quick to react to both Topacio's tweet and Rappler's reply tweet, with some ridiculing the lawyer's thoughtless tweet and apparent lack of knowledge about what beat reporting is and which reporter is assigned to his Presidential bet. A beat reporter is someone who is assigned to cover particular events, areas, or subjects. Rappler reporter Lian Buan is the one assigned to cover Bongbong Marcos's presidential campaign, which Topacio is part of. "The fact that rappler had to explain what beat reporting is. HAHAHAHAHAHA." noted t.ocino. Not OK Taecyon, similarly' said "Today, Topacio learned what a beat reporter is" KapusoBTS, on the other hand, tweeted "Ayaw kasi nilang papasukin yung rappler reporter na assigned sa kanila, ngayon nagrereklamo sila ng bias. Ewan ko kung pavictim o tanga. Baka both…" hinting at the recent incidents where a Rappler reporter was not allowed to cover a BBM event. Twitter user, Cris Aron John, meanwhile asked who is assigned to cover Marcos. He said in a tweet "@rapplerdotcom – and who is for BBM? And does BBM receive the same media mileage?" to which reporter Lian Buan responded with "I cover the Marcos campaign and I report everything I can – with context- no matter how cut off we are from their advisories, and despite me being excluded from their mailing list." Atty. Topacio is yet to directly respond to Rappler's tweet. The post Atty. Westword reports The ownership group behind Native Roots, one of Colorado's largest dispensary chains, is involved in an internal battle over $100 million. Native Roots operates twenty dispensaries in Colorado, as well as numerous marijuana cultivations and infused product facilities. Yet through multiple expansions over the past four years, company co-owners Josh Ginsberg and Rhett Jordan have been in financial and legal clashes with partner Peter Knobel, according to Denver District Court documents, with Knobel currently fighting an arbitration decision that would award $100.5 million to Ginsberg and Jordan. Native Roots was founded by Ginsberg and Jordan in 2009 as a medical marijuana dispensary, but quickly became one of Colorado's larger retail operations after recreational sales began in 2014. According to Jordan, that's when Knobel originally entered the operation, investing in Native Roots through his company, Brightstar LLC. "In 2014, capital was very hard to find, and good investors were hard to find. He's a successful developer with good experience in a lot of fields that apply to our industry," Jordan says of the original partnership. Brightstar took majority control of Native Roots in 2016, but Jordan says that wasn't the cause of the infighting. Ginsberg sued Brightstar in 2017, alleging a breach of the operating agreement between him and Jordan and Brightstar. Jordan, who eventually joined the lawsuit, says that Knobel and Brightstar violated a shotgun clause in their operating agreement. A special provision in business agreements, such a clause typically allows one partner to try to force other partners to sell their stake, or buy out a partner who wanted to sell their ownership. According to Jordan, Ginsberg and Brightstar attempted to buy each other out. "Ultimately Josh found the money, and Peter didn't go along with it," Jordan says. The operating agreement stipulated that partner disputes would be settled by an arbitrator. In… Excerpt only ... Westword report Colorado lawmakers have introduced a bill that would create a panel to study the nexus of natural psychedelics and mental health treatment. "I think we're looking for anything and everything that can help," says Representative Alex Valdez, a Denver Democratic who is co-sponsoring House Bill 1116 with Senator Joann Ginal, a Democrat from Fort Collins, and Representative Edie Hooton, a Boulder Democrat. The proposal calls for the panel to meet for a year to "study the use of plant-based medicines to support mental health, report its findings and make policy recommendations" to the Colorado General Assembly, the governor and other state officials. The bill allows for the study of four natural psychedelics: DMT, ibogaine, and psilocybin and psilocin, which are the active ingredients in psychedelic mushrooms. "I was reading about how there had been some promising research done on the use of psychedelics in the treatment of mental health issues, and I thought, this is really interesting. Because we've known for years in some sense that through natural medicine, the earth provides a lot of the things that we need as people," says Valdez. "Our thought was, how do we do it right? How do we bring together a group of people that kind of cover all of the bases so that, as we potentially move forward with things like decriminalization or rescheduling, that as we're doing it, it's because it was determined as best practices by people who know." | [New post] Updated Homeland Security Bulletin Declares War on Critical Thinking Posted: 27 Feb 2022 01:04 AM PST aletho posted: " Health Freedom Defense | February 22, 2022 In many quarters, the hypothesis is now being formulated that we are experiencing the end of a world, that of bourgeois democracies founded on rights, parliaments, and the separation of powers, and that this" In many quarters, the hypothesis is now being formulated that we are experiencing the end of a world, that of bourgeois democracies founded on rights, parliaments, and the separation of powers, and that this is giving way to a new despotism that, as regards the pervasiveness of control and the cessation of political activity, will be worse than the totalitarianism that we have known before. American political scientists call it the Security State, a state in which "for security reasons" (in this case, for the sake of "public health," a term that suggests the notorious committees of public health during the Terror), any limit can be imposed upon individual liberties. – Giorgio Agamben, "New Reflections" On February 7th, 2022 the Department of Homeland Security issued a new bulletin, defining what it considers to be the "primary terrorism-related threats" to the United States. This directive replaced their previous directive which was set to expire on February 8th. Over the past decade as new directives were put in place they have, in their essence, been slight modifications of previous bulletins – all of them built upon the same theme. That theme, for a full decade and more, was the Security State's declared "War on Terror" with the "threat of foreign enemies and foreign influence" regarded as the essential focal point and recurring theme of these memoranda. While "domestic enemies" were nominally mentioned in past memoranda these references have been in passing and discussed within the context of potential influence from foreign actors. Without fail, the theme of these past seasonal DHS directives featured the constant drumbeat of "enemies from the outside" who sought to interfere with the internal affairs of the United States. This most recent DHS bulletin issued February 7th changes course dramatically as illustrated through the opening sentence: The United States remains in a heightened threat environment fueled by several factors, including an online environment filled with false or misleading narratives and conspiracy theories. A paragraph later the bulletin states: Key factors contributing to the current heightened threat environment include: (1) The proliferation of false or misleading narratives, which sow discord or undermine public trust in U.S. government institutions: For example, there is a widespread online proliferation of false or misleading narratives regarding unsubstantiated widespread election fraud and COVID-19. These statements represent a radical departure from previous memos. We see a marked shift in the DHS narrative from battling the ill-defined outside influence of "extremist media branches of al-Qa'ida and its affiliates, as well as ISIS" to combating an amorphous terrorist threat from within which utilizes misleading narratives that "undermine trust in US Government institutions." This shift in the DHS narrative goes beyond just imagined domestic threats by suggesting that speech itself can now be seen as an act of terrorism. As is often the case, none of the terms are clearly defined or specific examples given, as to what might comprise "misleading narratives" or infractions that "undermine trust in government institutions." Further in the bulletin, we find this paragraph which references Covid-19 policies and the experimental Covid-19 injections: Meanwhile, COVID-19 mitigation measures—particularly COVID-19 vaccine and mask mandates—have been used by domestic violent extremists to justify violence since 2020 and could continue to inspire these extremists to target government, healthcare, and academic institutions that they associate with those measures. Again no specific examples are given in regards to these purported violent acts which arose from dissatisfaction with Covid-19 policies. The allegation is further mystified by the suggestion that these never-defined acts could inspire future acts of violence. With such accusatory and suggestive language, this memo should be seen as not only an assault on free speech but also as opening up the door for pre-crime. All of this must be placed within the context of how the Covid-19 "pandemic" was used as a rationale for locking down the country and suspending our civil liberties for the past two years, for vaporizing businesses by government-issued Covid policies, all resulting in soaring energy/housing/food costs as well as record-level inflationary pressure. Further implications of this directive must also include an understanding that "our way out", according to this government, has been a mandated injection (which financially benefits one of the most powerful industries in our nation) and which appears to be causing unprecedented harm. When seen in total, this bulletin appears to be the government's initial attempt to quell all discussion and debate on what has to be considered the most reckless and devastating public health policies enacted in this country's history. It now appears the long warned about "war on domestic terror" is here. This war involves a Kafkaesque criminalization of whatever the government deems "extremist views" or "disinformation." Equally concerning to the attacks we are seeing on our First Amendment rights of free speech and freedom of association is how, through the rationale of the Covid-19 narrative, we are seeing in real-time the "War on Terror" being replaced by the "War on The Virus" as the raison d'être of the National Security State. The danger of such a directive and policy position, if allowed to stand unchallenged, lies in future "Covid-19 Pandemics" being used as rationales for creating more authoritarian forms of governance and serving as a template for how to manufacture perpetual states of emergency. |

Chances are that psilocybin or magic mushrooms will be more widely legalized within several years. The progress they have made since 2020 has been extraordinary. The path from illegality to legality looks remarkably like the journey that cannabis has been on for the last several years. As public sentiment has changed—driven in large part by anecdotal accounts of psilocybin's effectiveness as a treatment for PTSD as well as treatment-resistant depression and anxiety—several jurisdictions have begun removing barriers to psilocybin use through deprioritization, decriminalization, and full legalization. As with cannabis, though, these local actions are complicated by psilocybin's federal status as an illegal Schedule I drug. While it's worth asking when and how psilocybin could be legalized, that's somewhat of a backward question. The better question might be: why exactly is psilocybin illegal in the first place? Why Is Psilocybin Federally Illegal? There's a simple answer, and then there's the more complicated truth that underlies that simple answer. First, the straightforward part: psilocybin and psilocin—the active hallucinogenic substance from mushrooms native to South America, Mexico, and the southern U.S.—are federally illegal because they were classified as Schedule I substances under the Controlled Substances Act in 1970. That categorization is based on the three Schedule I criteria: drugs with no currently accepted medical use in the United States, drugs with a "high potential for abuse," and drugs that lack "accepted safety" for use under medical supervision. What differentiates Schedule I drugs from every other schedule is the lack of an "accepted medical use." Highly addictive but useful drugs such as cocaine, morphine, codeine, and fentanyl are all classified as Schedule II. Because they lack that apparent utility, Schedule I drugs are tightly controlled, which makes research—including, say, research into whether a drug might be medically useful—incredibly difficult. (If this sounds familiar, it's because there's another plant-based drug that's earned… Excerpt only ... Source: New Atlas Despite its prevalence in popular culture, the idea of microdosing is relatively new. Characterized in detail little more than a decade ago by James Fadiman, the practice suggests tiny sub-perceptual doses of psychedelic drugs can lead to enhancements in productivity, creativity, mental well-being and energy. The key to microdosing is repeated small doses, usually once every three days for a few weeks, and psilocybin or LSD are the most common psychedelic drugs microdosed. Doses are usually no more than 10 percent of a standard psychedelic dose, and it is important users garner no acute perceptual hallucinogenic effects from a given microdose. Basically, if you feel like you are tripping then you have taken too much. Despite the popularity of microdosing, it is still unclear whether the practice actually works or is just a glorified placebo. Very little clinical research has so far tested the phenomenon, and the few studies that have been published to date seem to indicate microdosing may not be doing much at all. This new study is among the first to use a double-blind, placebo-controlled design to test microdosing. The European study looked at whether psilocybin microdosing led to improvements in emotion processing and reductions in symptoms of anxiety and depression. Over 50 subjects participated in the cross-over trial, completing a pair of three-week testing blocks. For one block the participants took five to seven psilocybin microdoses, and in the other block they were given placebo capsules. On two occasions during each three-week block the participants came into the lab to perform a variety tests exploring creativity, emotion perception and aesthetic feelings. The researchers utilized capsules containing 0.7 grams of psilocybin truffles. They estimate this to equal a microdose of around 1.5 milligrams of psilocybin. Active full doses of pure psilocybin used in clinical research are often between 20 and… Excerpt only ...
