Politics Alert: Former congressman Beto O’Rourke projected to win Democratic nomination for governor of Texas

O' Rourke, who waged unsuccessful campaigns for Senate in 2018 and president in 2020, was projected by the Associated Press to win more than 50 percent of the vote, avoiding a runoff. He has targeted incumbent Republican Gov. Greg Abbott for failing to secure the state's electricity grid and for conservative positions on other issues.
