| Gunmen kill village official in Zamboanga Sibugay Posted: 29 Apr 2022 04:35 AM PDT A VILLAGE official was shot and killed while one of the two suspects was arrested after the incident in Zamboanga Sibugay province, a top police official said Friday, April 29, 2022.Police Colonel Albert Larubis, Zamboanga Sibugay police director, identified the fatality as Cristuto Halip, 67, a councilor in Guinoman village, Diplahan town.Larubis said Halip was shot by one of the two men riding tandem in a motorcycle around 11:45 a.m. Thursday at the Guinoman village hall.He said Halip was inside the barangay hall and about to go home when the suspects arrived and repeatedly shot the village official with the use of a caliber .45 pistol.Halip was rushed to a hospital in Diplahan but was declared dead by the attending physician, according to Larubis.Larubis said a slug and nine empty shells of caliber .45 pistol were recovered at the crime scene.He said one of the two suspects, Richard Pamagan, 44, who was driving the getaway motorcycle, was arrested in a follow-up operation in Sampoli-B village, Diplahan, by joint police and military forces.Larubis declined to comment whether the incident is election related or not except to say that follow-up operation is on to arrest the triggerman. | Posted: 29 Apr 2022 04:34 AM PDT TWELVE persons, including five children, were injured when the bus they were riding flipped over in the province of Zamboanga Sibugay, a top police official said Friday, April 29, 2022.Police Colonel Albert Larubis, Zamboanga Sibugay police director, said the incident happened around 9:25 a.m. Friday in Purok Malipayon in Langon village, Tungawan town.Larubis identified the victims as the following: Tito Molina Reyes, driver; Earl Rufino Savillano, conductor; Nerissa Lucman Guling, 32; Mary Joy Villegas Lampios, 21; Shada Banguih Dela Torre, 25; Ma. Oliva Cena Planos, 27; Maverick Cena Señava, three months; John Olivan Señava, four; Gracelyn Villion Chiong, 37; Gervin Chiong Alvarez, nine; Merl Chiong Alvarez, five; and Sophia Chiong Alvarez, two.The other three victims were not identified. They were unharmed and went home to their respective residences.Larubis said the victims were injured after the bus they were riding swerved and flipped over in Purok Malipayon, Langon village, Tungawan when Reyes avoided collision to an incoming sports utility vehicle and lost control of the steering wheel.He said the victims were taken to the Tungawan Rural Health Unit treatment. | Posted: 29 Apr 2022 04:32 AM PDT NINE members of the New People's Army (NPA) have surrendered to military authorities in Central Mindanao, officials announced Friday, April 29, 2022.Major General Juvymax Uy, Joint Task Force (JTF)-Central commander, said among the surrendered NPA members is the squad leader of Platoon Madrid, West Daguma Front, Sub-Regional Committee Daguma, Far South Mindanao Region known as Ka Jumbo.They surrendered to the troops of the 37th Infantry Battalion (IB) at the unit's headquarters on Wednesday, April 27, in Tibpuan village, Lebak, Sultan Kudarat.Lieutenant Colonel Allen Van Estrera, 37IB commander, attributed the surrender of the NPA rebels to the intensified intelligence operations of the unit.Ka Jumbo said during the debriefing that they decided to surrender because of the hardships and pressure they experienced as a result of the series of focused military operations and community support programs conducted by 37IB.They surrendered high-powered firearms that included rifles, two handguns and a grenade.A total of 61 NPA rebels were neutralized since January in Central Mindanao, of which five were killed, 53 surrendered, and three were apprehended."Your Armed Forces will relentlessly continue the implementation of peaceful mechanisms to convince the remaining CNT members to abandon their armed struggle and return to the folds of the law," said Lieutenant General Alfredo Rosario, Jr., commander of the Western Mindanao Command.
