Over 2,500 jobs up for grab on Labor Day in Tacloban, Ormoc

MORE than 2,500 local and overseas jobs are available in the Trabaho Negosyo Kabuhayan Job and Business Fairs in Eastern Visayas in celebration of the 120th Labor Day on May 1, 2022.Labor Regional Director Henry John Jalbuena said the two job fairs will be held at Robinsons North Tacloban City and Ormoc Superdome in Ormoc City."We are thankful to our partner local government units and employers here in Eastern Visayas for their usual participation and support to the various DOLE programs, particularly in the conduct of job fairs," Jalbuena said.As of April 27, some 943 job vacancies from 48 participating local employers will be available at the Tacloban Job Fair while 1,356 jobs from 12 employers are waiting for jobseekers in Ormoc.At least three recruitment agencies have also confirmed to join the job fairs with 1,650 overseas jobs being offered, according to the labor department in the region.Jobs available on May 1 include call center agents, accounting staff, electricians, nurses, medical technologists, teachers, bartenders, customer service representatives, drivers, production crew, mechanics, store supervisors, cashiers and financial advisors, among others. Site preparation, clearing underway for temporary shelters in Agaton-hit towns

THE Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in Eastern Visayas has started the site preparation and clearing for the building of 160 temporary shelters for the victims of Typhoon Agaton in Baybay City and Abuyog in Leyte."Our workers incessantly work even in a rainy weather and will also work on weekends in order for us to meet our target completion date," said Engr. Angelita Obediencia, DPWH-Eastern Visayas task force head.According to the DPWH, 80 temporary shelters will be established in Barangay Maganhan in Baybay for the landslide victims in the city, while another 80 temporary shelters will be in Barangay Tinalian, Abuyog for the victims in the said town.The 160 temporary shelters will be provided by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).In Barangay Maganhan alone, DPWH already deployed personnel and equipment comprised of five chainsaw units, two backhoes, a prime mover with trailer, a boom truck, a dump truck, and a bulldozer for site clearing.As of April 27, 2022, the team was able to cut 160 of the 190 coconut trees on the said two-hectare relocation site in Barangay Maganhan.The Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) in the region also assessed the area before the site clearance.The site clearing and preparation are targeted to be completed on May 6, 2022.After the trees are cut, grubbing will be conducted afterward, preceding construction, the DPWH said.Meanwhile, DPWH Regional Director Allan Borromeo gave marching orders on the prompt completion of the two relocation sites."These shelters are expected to be completed on June 10, which means that we have to work fast to carry out our part. There are about 900 families altogether from Abuyog and Baybay who are currently staying in evacuation centers, who most need these shelters," Borromeo said. (SunStar Philippines)
