Boosters urged to stem coronavirus transmission Posted: 30 Jun 2022 04:27 AM PDT ILOILO City residents are encouraged to get booster shot to add protection as Covid-19 cases are increasing.Mayor Jerry Treñas encouraged eligible adults to avail themselves of booster and second booster, and children who are eligible for vaccination and booster to visit district health centers as the limited supply will last until July only."If cases continue to increase, we might be elevated to higher Alert Level. We again remind the public to practice health protocols such as use of face mask and sanitize hands regularly," Treñas said.Those with symptoms or experiencing flu-like symptoms are urged to undergo RT-PCR testing at La Paz plaza gym.The city is discouraging the use of do-it-yourself antigen test as it is not a reliable tool for COVID testing compared to the gold standard which is the RT-PCR.City Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit of City Health Office (CESU-CHO) recorded 39 Covid cases on Monday June 27, the highest so far this month.The average daily case posted 109 percent increase as it doubled to 16 cases for the period of June 16-22 compared to eight cases for the period of June 9-15. Big conventions back in Iloilo City Posted: 30 Jun 2022 04:26 AM PDT THE City of Love continues to host giant gatherings as tourist arrivals are going back to normal following a hiatus due to the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic.Mayor Jerry Treñas was elated of the various events being organized in the city that attracted thousands of attendees from all over the country, boosting tourism and economic activities.Some 6,000 delegates, the biggest so far, are joining the three-day 39th Principals Training and Development and National Board Conference of Philippine Elementary School Principals Association (Pespa) at Iloilo Convention Center (ICON) in Mandurriao district until June 30.Other conventions set in July include Philippine Society of Mechanical Engineers (PSME) 8th Visayas Regional Conference with some 500 delegates at Punta Villa in Arevalo district July 21-23 and Sunlife with some 450 delegates at ICON July 5.The Komiket Iloilo comics fest on July 15-17 and Iloilo Bike Festival on July 29-31 are also expected to entice and enjoin enthusiasts. Iloilo City draws more regional bank offices Posted: 30 Jun 2022 04:25 AM PDT ILOILO City firmed up its growing reputation as financial center of Western Visayas as it attracted more banks that choose to settle and set up regional headquarters in the metropolis.Mayor Jerry Treñas welcomed the new developments as testament to the city's robust economy and to generate more employment opportunities for the Ilonggos.Treñas joined no less than Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) incoming Governor Felipe Medalla and Megaworld chairman Dr. Andrew L. Tan in the recent groundbreaking of BSP Iloilo Building at Iloilo Business Park (IBP) in Mandurriao district."With BSP choosing IBP as the location of its upcoming BSP Iloilo office, Megaworld's most successful township outside of Metro Manila continues its rise as the premier business and financial hub in Iloilo City," Megaworld Corp. said in a statement."This will rise within the commercial and financial district of the township. Other Philippine banks such as Metrobank and Unionbank will soon build their regional offices in this district soon," it added.Megaworld Executive Vice President Kevin Tan stressed: "It is with great pride and honor to welcome the BSP to IBP, which will be home to its new regional office. This marks another milestone for Megaworld, as we strive to provide more essential services and modern conveniences to the city of Iloilo and nearby provinces.""Soon, IBP will also become home to the regional branches of two of the largest banks in the country, Metrobank and Unionbank. Guimaras pays tribute to outgoing officials, employees Posted: 29 Jun 2022 03:25 AM PDT THE Provincial Government of Guimaras has paid tribute to the outgoing officials and employees of the province.The event dubbed "Salamat: An Appreciation Gala for Guimaras Outgoing Officials and Employees" was held on June 28, 2022 at the Provincial Covered Gym.Eight elected officials have seen their termS end at noon of June 30, 2022 including Governor Samuel T. Gumarin. Seven members of the 9th Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) -- Cyril Beltran, David Gano, Josefina De La Cruz, Diosdado Gonzaga, Rex Fernandez, Glicerio Edang, and Marilou Delumpa -- have also bid goodbye to the four chambers of the SP session hall.Meanwhile, 24 outgoing employees of the PGG were also commended for their service to the Guimarasnons.Vice Governor John Edward G. Gando, who spearheaded the planning for the conduct of the momentous occasion, said that the event was a way for the Provincial Government of Guimaras to convey its gratitude and show respect for the officials and employees who have given their time in service of the Guimarasnons."The word thank you shows our appreciation and conveys our gratitude. But more than that, it is a sign of respect to the person who has helped you. Truly you have left an incredible mark in our heart and the hearts of those you have helped, assisted and served. We have threaded the same path, the same direction towards the goal that we have set for the upliftment of each of our own municipalities and eventually our own province," she said.The legislator appreciated the sacrifices and dedication these public servants have given to the Guimarasnons.The lawmaker also lauded the results Governor Gumarin has delivered and for stirring the province towards sustainable development for nine years."We thank you gov for the legacy you left behind, for the commitment you have offered. We thank you for your utmost dedication and the sincere service you have rendered for our beloved province. For the six years that we have served together, there has never been a single moment that we have dissenting opinions for our plans for Guimaras," she added.Overcoming the hurdles posed by the Covid-19 pandemic is one of the best achievements of the outgoing governor according to Nava.Nava said that Gumarin's dedication and love of service have brought the province to its present glamour and helped propel Guimaras to its highs.Gumarin who will be the incoming mayor of the Municipality of Buenavista said that he was reluctant at first to run for the gubernatorial post as he was not ready for the responsibilities but he cannot say "NO" to Dr. JC Rahman Nava who will replaced him as governor of the Province of Guimaras."Tuod na ginhambalan niya ko: 'Noy ikaw mapadalagan gobernador.
