Marine troops rescue 6 off Tawi-Tawi

TROOPS of the Marine Battalion Landing Team-12 (MBLT-12) rescued six people drifting at sea near Baguan Island, Tawi-Tawi, the military reported Sunday, July 10, 2022.The Public Affairs Office of the Naval Forces Western Mindanao (NFWM) said those rescued on Thursday, July 7, were crew and passengers of a small boat that sank due to inclement weather condition.Abdulmuin Paring, the boat skipper, said they left Tabawan, South Ubian municipality on the morning of July 5 and were heading for Turtle Islands town.On the evening of July 6, their boat was battered by bad weather, which led to the half-sinking of their wooden-hull boat near Baguan, Island.Two of Paring's crew were identified as Razmil Jurupin and Mawi Paring, while their three passengers were not identified except that they are from Tabawan, South Ubian.Brigadier General Romeo Racadio, 2nd Marine Brigade commander, said that the rescued individuals were immediately given food and clothing."They were endorsed to the Ministry of Social Service and Development for possible aid and their proper disposition," Racadio said. 2 injured NPA rebels now under government care

TWO wounded New People's Army (NPA) rebels are now under the care of the government in the province of Zamboanga del Sur.This, as they surrendered Friday, July 8, to the military amid the continued combat operations against them in Zamboanga del Sur, according to Lieutenant Colonel Jo-ar Herrera, commander of the 53rd Infantry Battalion.Herrera said that Nelyn Ayas alias Ka Clara and Jebbie Labito alias Ka Yuri are undergoing medical treatment at a government hospital.Herrera said the two were injured in a clash with government forces on July 4 in Saad villge, Dumingag, Zamboanga del Sur.Both Ayas and Labito were members of the defunct Main Regional Guerrilla Unit of the NPA's Western Mindanao Regional Party Committee, Herrera said. He said that the surrender of Ayas and Labito is proof of the effective strategy adopted by the government against the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP)-NPA in the province of Zamoanga del Sur.Brigadier Gen Leonel Nicolas, Army's 102nd Infantry Brigade commander, said the two NPA surrenderers will be taken care of, regardless of being an enemy of the state forces."We will ensure that they will be medically taken care of and protected," Nicolas said.He said they will be enrolled in the program of the government known as the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-Clip).He added that once the NPA surrenderers are enrolled, they will receive P15,000 immediate cash assistance and P50,000 livelihood assistance through the E-Clip. 24 ex-Dawlah Islmiya members get cash, food aid

AS PART of the government's efforts to encourage terrorists to embrace peace, the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (Barmm) has provided cash and food aid to 24 former Dawlah Islamiya-Maute Group (DI-MG) members in Lanao.The cash and food aid were given to the 24 former DI-MG members through Project TuGON of the Ministry of Interior and Local Government in Barmm (MILG-Barmm).Each of the 24 former DI-MG members had 50 kilograms of rice, food package, gallons of alcohol and P5,000 cash.Project TuGoN or "Tulong ng Gobyernong Nagmamalasakit" is a MILG-Barmm project that respond to the needs of former DI-MG as they go mainstream.The project TuGON provided profiling and distribution of assistance to former DI-MG who have decided to return to normal and law-abiding life."The profiling allows us to carefully design appropriate socio-economic interventions to better their lives and their families," said Michael Laguilay, public safety division chief of MILG-Lanao del Sur.Zaide Amel, TuGON project manager, said they will continue to distribute assistance to former DI-MG members to encourage others to return to the folds of the law and live in peace and harmony together with their families.Aside from Laguilay and Amel, the distribution of the cash and food aid was facilitated by the 103rd Infantry Brigade, through its Civil-Military Office headed by Lieutenant Colonel Palawan Miondas and other officials of the MILF-Barmm.Meanwhile, Brigadier General Jose Maria Cuerpo II, 103rd Infantry Brigade commander, said they will continue to collaborate with its partner stakeholders to give hope to all former rebels to have a livelihood and humanitarian assistance in order to transform them into more productive and law-aiding citizens. 53IB extends support to Zambo Sur flood-affected families

THE Army's 53rd Infantry Battalion (IB) together with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) extended humanitarian assistance to flood-affected families in the province of Zamboanga del Sur brought about by the inclement weather condition.Lieutenant Colonel Jo-ar Herrera, 53IB commander, said that relief aid consisting of family food packs and non-food items was distributed Thursday, July 7, in flood-affected villages of Molave, Zamboanga del Sur.A total of 400 family food packs and non-food items were initially provided to the families in the affected villages, according to Herrera.He said that the 53IB will continue to extend its hand to the families that need help."We will continue to conduct Disaster Response Operations to help and serve our fellow Filipinos who were severely hit by the flash flood," he added.The past few days, Zamboanga Peninsula experienced heavy downpour due to the Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone coupled with the Southwest monsoon. Task force holds ‘Football for Peace’ in 2 Sulu towns

THE Joint Task Force (JTF)-Sulu in collaboration with partner agencies initiated a Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism (PCVE) activity in the province of Sulu.The PCVE dubbed "Football for Peace" was held last week in the towns of Panamao and Luuk in the second district of Sulu.A football competition, initiated by the Marine Battalion Landing Team-7 (MBLT-7) headed by Lieutenant Colonel John Paul Jacia, was held at Panglima Agga Elementary School, in Seit Lake Poblacion, Panamao town.Major General Ignatius Patrimonio, JTF-Sulu commander, lauded the initiative of MBLT-7 for their efforts to insulate the youth as vulnerable targets from the deceptive narratives of the Abu Sayyaf bandits."This is a good opportunity for the younger generation to be more active in sports. It will give them a sense of direction and will keep them from harm's way," Patrimonio said.Colonel Vicente Mark Anthony Blanco, III, 4th Marine Brigade commander, said that a total of 50 participants from the two municipalities were seven to 12 years old.Blanco said that the initiative was intended to sustain the gains and maintain the momentum of the peace and security campaign of the JTF Sulu in the Second District."It is important that we invest our time to mold the character of the children for they are the next generation of Tausugs. Involving them in sport will give them a sense of discipline and responsibility at their young age," Blanco said.The Football for Peace is a diplomatic sports movement facilitated by volunteers of football enthusiasts promoting their advocacy of uniting people through sports.They orchestrate peace tournaments with local partners and schools utilizing football as an effective tool to engage and influence some of the most vulnerable and hard-to-reach children and young people.
