Drug personality, cohort arrested in Zambo City

A DRUG personality was wounded while his cohort was arrested in a law enforcement operation in an east coast village in Zamboanga City, the police reported Monday, July 18, 2022.Police Colonel Alexander Lorenzo, Zamboanga City Police Director (ZCPO), identified the wounded drug personality as Jainnal Assan, 35, and his cohort, Salam Salasim, 45.Lorenzo said the two were arrested in a law enforcement operation by way of service of search warrant around 6:20 a.m. Friday at Sitio Kapuk in Lamisahan village.Lorenzo said that Assan pulled a pistol and opened fire prompting the policemen, who were at that time serving the search warrant, to return fire hitting the suspect.Lorenzo said that Assan was rushed to the Zamboanga City Medical Center (ZCMC) for medication. Recovered from him were a caliber .45 pistol with ammunition.He said that also recovered from Assan's residence were some 50 grams of suspected shabu worth P340,000, improvised blasting cap with time fuse, ammunition for caliber .45 and .9-mm pistols, illegal drug paraphernalia, two plastic bottles containing Ammonium Nitrate Fuel Oil (ANFO), two radio transceivers, improvised firing pin assembly, and others.Assan's cohort, Salasin, tried to escaped but was cornered by policemen and seized from his possession a caliber .357 magnum revolver with ammunition and a sling bag.Lorenzo said that Assan is presently admitted at ZCMC while Salasim Doro is detained. 29 drug reformists complete reformation program

TWENTY-nine drug reformists have completed their reformation program at the Balay Silangan Reformation Center in Diplahan, Zamboanga Sibugay, the PDEA reported Monday, July 18, 2022.Dorothy Joy Villoso, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA)-Zamboanga Sibugay supervising officer, said in a statement Monday, July 18, that the drug reformists completed their reformation program last week.Villoso said they composed the 2nd Batch of Balay Silangan Graduates dubbed as "Salabok."Aside from Villoso, the completion ceremony was also witnessed by officials and representatives of other agencies and agencies involved in the implementation of the reformation program.It can be recalled that the Diplahan Balay Silangan Center produced its first batch of reformists on October 15, 2021.The first batch consisted of 44 drug reformists.The "Balay Silangan" is a community-based reformation program of PDEA aimed to rehabilitate surrendered drug personalities across the country.The program builds temporary shelters to drug offenders with the objective of reforming them into self-sufficient and law-abiding members of society. 4 Abu Sayyaf bandits surrender in Basilan

FOUR Abu Sayyaf bandits have surrendered amid the government offensive against them in the province of Basilan, the police reported Monday, July 18, 2022.The Area Police Command-Western Mindanao (APC-WM) identified the ASG surrenderers as the following: Muhammad Salihm alais Abu Jafar, 23; Bong Majinti alias Abu Sambon, 23; Ardin Moreno alias Abu Kain, 27; and, Hadjibun Hambali alias Abu Aksad, 27.The APC-WM said they surrendered to the soldiers of the Army's 18th Infantry Battalion (IB) on Saturday, July 16, in Campo Uno villge, Lamitan City, Basilan.The APC-WM said that the four Abu Sayyaf surrenderers were all followers of slain Basilan-Based bandit leader Furuji Indama.Indama was killed in a clash with military forces on September 9, 2020 in the coastal town of R.T Lim, Zamboanga Sibugay.The Abu Sayyaf bandits have surrendered because they wanted to live a peaceful life together with their families. 2 hurt in gun attack in Lamitan City

TWO people were injured in a gun attack in the province of Basilan, the police reported Sunday, July 17, 2022.The Basilan Police Provincial Office (BPPO) identified the victims as Ahmad Samat, 26; and Samer Rasad, 38.The BPPO said the incident happened around 1:10 p.m. Sunday at the Oval site in Matibay village, Lamitan City, Basilan.Investigation showed that Samat, who was driving a passenger van from Lamitan City to Al-Barka town, was waiting for passengers when two men riding tandem on a motorcycle appeared and shot Rasad.Samat was wounded as he was hit by a stray bullet during the incident, according to the police.The two victims were rushed to the hospital in Lamitan City and were later transferred to a hospital in Zamboanga City.The police are still investigating the case to establish the identities of the suspects, who fled after the incident. Zamboanga City joins 44th NRDP week celebration

THE City of Zamboanga joined the celebration of the 44th National Disability Rehabilitation and Prevention (NDPR) Week.The celebration in this city kicked off with a mass at the Saint Ignatius de Loyola Parish at 10 a.m. Sunday, July 17, in Tetuan village.The celebration of the NDRP week is from July 17 to July 23 with the theme "Empowering the Persons with Disabilities through Responsive Policies, Programs and Services.A motorcade followed around the city's main thoroughfares at 1 p.m. from Pettit Barracks to KCC Mall del Zamboanga where the opening program was held.The City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) said that the celebration of the DDPR week is a coordinative effort with the Department of Social Welfare and Development, Department of Labor and Employment, Department of Health, Philhealth and other persons with disability (PWD) stakeholders.During the week, several other activities are slated to include the series of orientations on the new programs for the PWD sector by the DOH and Philhealth and the first-ever PWD Job Fair to be conducted by the DOLE, through the Public Employment Service Office.The celebration is pursuant to Proclamation 361 issued on August 19, 2000, declaring the third week of July as the National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week which shall culminate on the birthdate of the Sublime Paralytic Apolinario Mabini on July 23 each year. 3 arrested for illegal fishing

THREE fishermen were arrested in an anti-illegal fishing campaign in the province of Zamboanga Sibugay, the police reported Sunday, July 17, 2022.Police Colonel Albert Larubis, Zamboanga Sibugay police director, identified those arrested as Alsaif Nasidul, 19; Alkabir Jammang, 18; and Walid Alih, 18, all residents of Litayon village, Alicia town in that province.Larubis said they were arrested by joint police and Municipal Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Office (MFAR) personnel around 3:35 p.m. Saturday, July 16, in the municipal waters of Mabuhay, Zamboanga Sibugay.He said the joint team of police and MFAR personnel were on patrol when they chanced upon a motorboat with three people aboard engaged in illegal fishing locally known as "Sinsuro". Larubis said confiscated from the three arrested fishermen were a 10-horse power motorboat and fishing gears.He said the arrested fishermen and the confiscated fishing gears were taken to the MFAR office of Mabuhay for proper disposition. 6 Abu Sayyaf bandits surrender

SIX Abu Sayyaf bandits have surrendered amid the military offensive against them in the province of Sulu, the military reported Saturday, July 16, 2022.Major General Ignatius Patrimonio, 11th Infantry Division commander, said the six Abu Sayyaf bandits have been undergoing process to avail of the government's Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-Clip).Patrimonio said they turned over high-powered firearms when they surrendered Monday, July 11, to the 1103rd Infantry Brigade in Bonbong village, Patikul, Sulu.He said the oldest among the Abu Sayyaf surrenderers is 47 years old and the youngest is aged 25. They belonged to different sub-leaders of the Abu Sayyaf in Sulu.One of the Abu Sayyaf surrenderers identified as abu Ben decided to surrender because he is "tired of always being on the run" hiding from government forces and longing for his family.Abu Ben said he had been with the Abu Sayyaf Group for 11 years.Brigadier General Benjamin Batara, Jr., commander of the 1103rd Infantry Brigade, said that the collaborative efforts of the Municipal Task Force in Ending Local Armed Conflict (MTF-Elac) of Patikul with the military and the community had been able to convinced the six Abu Sayyaf bandits to surrender and avail the government's program.Since January 2022, a total of 75 Abu Sayyaf members voluntarily surrendered to Joint Task Force-Sulu, bringing along with them 60 firearms. Anti-smuggling operation nets 7, P6.2-M smuggled cigarettes

LAWMEN have arrested seven persons and seized some P6.2 million worth of smuggled cigarettes in an anti-smuggling operations off Zamboanga City, the police reported Saturday, July 16.Police Colonel Richard Verceles, operations chief of the Area Police Command-Western Mindanao, said the suspected smugglers were arrested and the contraband was seized around 1 a.m. Saturday, July 16, near Manalipa Island, Zamboanga City.Verceles said that the joint team of policemen and Bureau of Customs personnel were conducting seaborne patrol when they chanced upon and stopped a motorboat named "MPB King" with seven people aboard that came from Sulu traveling towards the direction of Zamboanga Sibugay province.He identified them as the following: Benzar Jajales, 48; Binbin Asiri, 31; Elnejin Asiril, 24; Minkadra Sakili, 39; Sherwin Masakin, 39; Adzmir Bakki, 32; and Pajing Muknan, 29.He said the motorboat was found to be loaded with 178 master cases of assorted cigarettes with no pertinent documents with an estimated market value amounting to P6.2 million.Verceles said the crew members, motorboat and confiscated cigarettes were turned over to the custody of the BOC for proper disposition.
