| Rachel Manteuffel is our op-ed administrator, which means that she manages the torrent of op-ed submissions — some hundred a day — that come our way, and, yes, we read every one. As Manteuffel explained, "I'm the first reader of articles submitted to The Post's op-ed department — and part of my job is rejecting the many we are unable to publish. The task is hardest when the pieces are personal and painful, and my professional response can feel inadequate." In the aftermath of the Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, Manteuffel noticed a number of submissions in which women described, often in powerfully intimate ways, their own and their families' experiences with abortion and pregnancy. As individual pieces, they might not have worked; together they told an important and moving story. With our audio and design team, Manteuffel assembled seven excerpts, each read by the author.
